GLSEN Chapter Board Member Commitment

Approved by GLSEN’s National Advisory Council: December 3, 2005

I am a member of the Board of Directors of the GLSEN Middle Tennessee Chapter (the “Board”), and, in connection with my service as a member of the Board, I commit to do the following:

Act in accordance with the “GLSEN Ethics Policy for Chapter Board Members,” Chapter organizing documents, and other Chapter and GLSEN policies and requirements, as they may exist from time to time;

Prepare for and attend Board and committee meetings;

Conscientiously perform my duties as a member of the Board;

Assist with Board member recruitment efforts;

Work in a cooperative, professional and collegial manner with Board colleagues, any Chapter staff or consultants, and GLSEN staff to advance GLSEN’s mission;

Maximize my potential to “give and get” financial resources on behalf of the Chapter, including [ ]

Support GLSEN’s work in becoming a more inclusive organization;

Support Board decisions and Chapter and GLSEN policies and position statements; and

Familiarize myself with the Chapter’s and GLSEN’s message and programs so that I may articulate them to others, and seek out opportunities to do so.

I understand that I should contact the Board Chair (before taking any action) if: (a) I have a question about fulfilling my responsibilities as a Board member; (b) I believe that a fellow Board member is not adhering to Board policies; or (c) I disagree with any Chapter or GLSEN policies or positions.

I acknowledge that, if my conduct suggests that I am failing to fulfill my Board responsibilities or if I violate my commitments as a Board member, the Board Chair may contact me to discuss my role. If that discussion fails to resolve any issue, I understand that I will be entitled to resign from the Board at any time. Additionally, I understand that the Board and GLSEN reserve the right to remove a Board member with or without cause.

I acknowledge receipt of the “GLSEN Ethics Policy for Chapter Board Members” and I agree to abide by those policies and by the commitments and understandings set forth in this document.

I appreciate the confidence that the Chapter has shown in me by electing me to the Board, and I look forward to continuing my work on behalf of the Chapter and GLSEN as a member of the Board.

Sincerely, ______
