What is Curling ?
- A life time sport
- Can be played at any age
- Provides a good self- regulated workout
Curling Basics
- Can be played on an indoor ice surface in a curling rink
- Curling is a sport based on strategy and
finesse
How to play the game
A curling match is made up of two teams of four players who launch stones on an ice surface and
get it to stop as close as possible to a target zone.
A team’s strategy is defined as either an offensive game (try to score points) or a defensive game
(try to protect your stones). Teammates can
sweep the ice surface to alter the speed and
direction of the stone. A game is made up of
eight ends of about fifteen minutes each. Each
player will launch 2 stones per end.
Equipment
The curling centre provides the stones, brooms, sliders, and cue sticks. You need to wear warm
loose fitting clothes and a pair of clean, flat, rubber-soled shoes (i.e. running shoes). For your safety, we recommend wearing curling shoes and protective
head gear.
Curling schedule and costs
Games are played on Wednesdays
at 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. and Fridays
at 9 a.m. from the beginning of October to
the end of March. The season consists of
21 games (2 hours each). The cost for the
2016-17 season is $250 including
$20 membership card. Or you can sign up
as a spare and pay $15 per game or $10 with
the purchase of the $20 membership card.
Activities
Social events and funspiels are organized
during the season. In accordance with custom, winning teams will buy a drink for the losing team; thereby fostering socializing between players.
