Items discussed

1.Quiz night. This was deemed to be a success on a number of fronts:

  • £547.80 profit – treasurer to make out cheque to SCIAF for this sum which will be earmarked for the Tsunami relief efforts.
  • A fun night was had by all.
  • There was good representation by teaching staff (better luck next time!).

2. Sensory Garden. Mr Love reviewed the plans recently drawn up by North Lanarkshire architects. He indicated that a significant proportion of the SIPS funding designated for development of the garden had been committed. The PTA will shortly be invoiced for £900 previously set aside for the garden project (£500 from the Lanarkshire Education Trust and £400 from the Community Grant Scheme). On receipt of invoice(s) the treasurer will issue a cheque to the school for £900 and the chair will forward a copy of invoices to the funding bodies in compliance with their terms of agreement.

The chair was invited to view the garden plans following the Patron’s Day Mass on Friday 18 March. It was hoped that the local press would subsequently promote the event. In addition, the school will continue to record the development of the garden and post photographs on the school web site.

3.Bank details. Treasurer still waiting for a new cheque book. Carol will contact the bank to determine the cause of delay.

4.‘Parents’ in Partnership’. A conference will be held in the Strathclyde Hilton Hotel, Bellshill on the morning of Saturday 19 March. The conference, which will look at the future of parental involvement in schools, will be represented both from members of the PTA and School Board. Feedback will be provided at the next PTA meeting.

5. School photographs. Mr Love was asked to consider re-instituting individual and class photographs of pupils. Mr Mathieson suggested that previous wastage caused by pupils’ failure to purchase prints could be minimised by making use of digital photography.

6. Crucifixes. Mr Mathieson observed that the number of crucifixes in classes had diminished over time. Mr Love noted that he would arrange for an audit to be carried out.
