JOB DESCRITPION

TRANSPORTATION MAINTENANCE

JOB GOAL: To achieve excellence in the district transportation responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1.  Have experience and/or training in the maintenance and repair of engine driven vehicles.

2.  Be certified as a school bus driver through the Montana Office of Public Instruction, and be able to perform all of the duties of a school bus driver.

3.  Ability and knowledge in servicing all types of engines including diesel.

4.  Be able to make minor repairs to body and chassis and replace parts as needed.

5.  Have accepted DMV report with no references to DUI history.

6.  Current Red Cross First Aid Instructor certification preferred.

7.  Understanding of current state transportation laws and liability issues.

8.  Knowledge of state transportation safety rules and procedures preferred.

9.  Knowledge of state and federal mandates, which affect school transportation, preferred.

10.  Knowledge of OSHA, FSLA, ADA regulations, State Board of Education’s Manual of Transportation, and Montana School Law preferred.

11.  Ability to read technical documents.

12.  Ability to schedule, report, log, and file.

13.  Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

14.  Ability to problem solve and trouble shoot.

15.  Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with administration, staff, students, and public.

16.  Ability to demonstrate flexibility in the workplace.

17.  Ability to plan.

18.  Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds on a regular basis.

19.  Ability to work continually standing, bending, or walking in accordance with OSHA, FSLA, and ADA standards.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.  Make repairs on all school district vehicles as may be required to maintain a safe, efficient, well ordered fleet.

2.  Keep Transportation Director and District Superintendent advised on the condition of district owned vehicles on a monthly basis.

3.  Service all school vehicles on a regular basis according to a pre-arranged schedule.

4.  Arrange for and approve all repairs completed out of the district.

5.  Prepare all extra-curricular vehicles for departure as assigned by the District Transportation Director, to include service and cleaning of body and windows.

6.  Maintain adequate parts and supply stock to provide for efficient fleet operation.

7.  Establish and execute bidding procedure for parts and supplies and make appropriate purchase recommendations for all related materials and supplies

8.  Complete all required paper work and forms related to Vehicle Maintenance and supply.

9.  Responsible for assisting with long and short term planning for transportation needs in conjunction with the administration.

10.  Demonstrates ability to recognize transportation needs and to work to make improvements.

11.  Be constantly aware of any potential safety hazards on the Transportation Grounds or in the office and work to correct such hazards.

12.  Assist in planning, implementing, and evaluating cost effective transportation services within budget restraints as directed by the administration.

13.  Be on call for after hour emergencies.

14.  Remains current in the transportation field serving as a resource for new ways to deliver services.

15.  Function as an extra driver during busy times when all drivers are assigned.

16.  Manage slow working times by thinking ahead.

17.  Any other duties as assigned by the administration.

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Superintendent of Schools in cooperation with District Transportation Supervisor

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Twelve month contract (on call when buses are traveling), benefit package, and other working conditions as determined by the negotiated agreement with Frenchtown Public School District.

EVALUATION: The District Superintendent of Schools will do performance evaluations of this position in accordance with the provisions of the School Board’s policy on evaluation of supervisory personnel.
