Learning Outcomes
By completing this task students will be able to:
· Recall key moments in their life.
· Project future achievements.
· Discuss and identify what will be required to make future plans a reality.
Preparation and Materials
· Copies of Info Sheet and Activity Sheet “Timeline” for each student.
· This lesson could link to lesson plan “Changes I Have Made”.
· The timeline could be done with pictures and photographs.
Method
- Put students into small groups of 4 to 6.
- Explain the aims of the lesson using the learning outcomes on the Info Sheet.
- Discuss achievements and significant moments in peoples lives – starting with school, getting married, having children, starting work, going to college.
- Give out the Info Sheet and discuss the entries marked on the Timeline before asking the students individually to complete their own past Timelines.
- Ask the students to share their completed past Timelines in their groups.
- Ask students individually to complete the future Timeline showing the steps students would have to take and then discuss in their groups.
- Ask the students what they have learned from the lesson.
- Summarise the main learning outcomes.
Extension Activity
· Discuss how at the end of their lives they would like to be remembered. Students write an account – ‘how I would like to be remembered’.
· Discuss and identify what they require to make some of this happen.
