Operation Christmas child

The shoe box appeal is a popular way to support children across the world, less fortunate than ourselves. So now is the time to start thinking of gathering things to fill the boxes with. I visited a good friend this week who has been to help with the distribution of the boxes, she was wrapping shoeboxes to fill and wherever you looked in her house there were shoe boxes, she stated there were over 200 filled boxes and she had stuff to fill about 100 more! She says noisy things and tactile things are needed for those who are blind & flannels are the most useful of the toiletries.

Cathedral Archer Project Sleep Out -Friday 2nd September
This is a unique experience of sleeping out in the centre of Sheffield. Are you up to the challenge? We create a safe environment next to the Cathedral where participants will sleep under the stars for the night.
On the night, you will gain a small insight into sleeping rough. Everyone that takes part learns something new and has a bit of experience of what it is like to be sleeping on the streets just for one night.
The Sleep Out is a great chance to meet like-minded people taking part in the challenge. You will also learn about the work we are doing to help homeless adults in Sheffield.
You will need to bring your own sleeping bag, mat and warm clothes – we will provide an unforgettable experience.
Here is what our past participants have had to say:
“The Sleep Out was so memorable. It has given me a lot to think about.”
“It is the best way to get a glimpse of what it is like to be homeless, cold and tired and it really furthers your understanding of the difficulties this creates.”
“A rewarding and enriching experience.”

Yorkshire Prayer Conference

There is to be a Prayer Conference on Saturday September 10th in York.

The guest speaker is Jarrod Cooper. It is to be a day of corporate prayer and worship.

A flyer with more details is on the Welcome Area notice board.

Piano for sale

We are hoping to buy a new piano for the church in the near future and we need to sell our current piano to help fund this. It is a good quality upright piano and has required the minimum attention over the years we have had it, It has stayed in tune throughout the seasons. We are hoping to sell for £500 pounds. Please see Martin or Ellen if interested.

Wednesday Lunch club

We require an able bodied volunteer to act as Passenger assistant on the community bus each week.

The work entails helping the more infirm members of the club onto and off the bus, and also checking that they are safely in their seats. This is a major commitment and we require someone with dedication.
