JOINT PRACTICE COMMITTEE

The Joint Practice Committee held a meeting on January 29, 2008 at 5:30 p.m. in Room C212, Delaware Technical & Community College, Stanton Campus, 400 Christiana –Stanton Road, Newark, Delaware.

PRESENT: Cynthia Drew, Calvin Freedman, Patricia Heinemann, Judy Hendricks, Robert Lawson, Jeanne McConnell, Delphos Price, and Yvonne Ting

ABSENT: Galicano Inguito

PRESIDING: Judy Hendricks – Chair

STAFF: David Mangler, Executive Director, Delaware Board of Nursing

1.0 CALL TO ORDER: Mr. Price called the meeting to order at 5:35 p.m.

2.0 REVIEW OF MINUTES: Corrections to minor errors of the minutes were offered. The Call to Order time should read 5:30 vs 5:3 and the Next Meeting Date should read 2008 vs 2007. Mr. Freedman made a motion, seconded by Ms. Heinemann, to approve the minutes of the December 18, 2007 meeting as written and with these minor corrections. Ms. Drew, Mr. Freedman, Ms. Heinemann, Mr. Lawson, and Dr. Ting voted in favor. Ms. McConnell abstained. The motion was carried.

3.0 REVIEW OF APPLICATIONS FOR INDEPENDENT PRACTICE/PRESCRIPTIVE AUTHORITY – Ms. Hendricks reviewed the information related to current licensure as an RN and APN, completion of academic courses in advanced health assessment, diagnosis and management of problems within the clinical specialty, advanced patho-physiology and advanced pharmacology/pharmacotherapeutics, and type of a collaborative agreement for each of the applicants.

3.5.1 Carrie Krauss

Ms. McConnell made a motion, seconded by Mr. Price, that the applications of Ms. Capuano, Ms. Conteh, Ms. Price, Ms. Deitrick, Mr. Nguyen, Ms. Benner, Ms. Kane, and Ms. Krauss be approved for independent prescriptive authority. The motion was unanimously carried.

Mr. Price moved that the application of Ms. Farrell be approved pending receipt of evidence of a required course in Advanced Pathophysiology. His motion was seconded by Dr. Ting. The motion was unanimously carried.

Mr. Mangler indicated that the pended applicant from December, Ms. Green – Family Nurse Practitioner provided the Committee-required evidence of Advanced Health Assessment prior to the meeting of the Board of Medical Practice and was therefore added to the list presented to that Board for their approval.

5.0 OTHER BUSINESS BEFORE THE COMMITTEE (for discussion only) None

6.0 PUBLIC COMMENT- Mr. Craig Durie, RN, MSN, was present as a Family Nurse Practitioner student. Committee members welcomed him and offered him the opportunity to ask questions regarding the Committee’s role and/or the business conducted.

7.0 NEXT MEETING- The next meeting will be held on February 26, 2008 with the location published in accordance with the Administrative Policies of the State.

8.0 ADJOURNMENT- The meeting was adjourned at 6:10 P.M.
