Name:
Who Is One of Our Senators and What Does He Do?
Use Senator Casey’s website to create a PowerPoint or Word document with the following information:
SENATOR BOB CASEY (D) – http://casey.senate.gov
· Provide a couple of sentences about the senator’s life via his biography (education, family, previous work experience, etc.).
· What has the senator been up to in the Senate (see the “Senator Casey’s Feed” part of his homepage)?
· What committees in the Senate is the senator a member of?
· What are at least three (3) constituent services that the senator provides (see the “Services for Pennsylvanians” part of his homepage)?
· If you needed help from the senator and wanted to visit one of his state offices, which office would be the closest?
· What are three (3) issues the senator cares about, and what does he propose to do about them?
· Describe and provide the names and dates of three (3) current event articles about the senator (NOT press releases from the senator) and how he is mentioned in them. You may want to type in “Bob Casey” in Google News.
Advanced Understanding – A REPRESENTATIVE SENATOR?
Pennsylvania has voted for a Democratic for president in every presidential election since 1992, and one of our senators is a Democrat…but is he a good representative for Pennsylvania? Use:
· The research you just did about Casey
· His biography located in Blackboard
· Poll results located in Blackboard
For example, does he sit on congressional committees that may be especially important for Pennsylvania’s economy? Do his issue positions reflect the position of a majority of Pennsylvanians? Is his political party and its support of or opposition to various issues shared by most Pennsylvanians? How would Republicans and Democrats view him?
Your evaluation of each senator’s “compatibility” must be supported with factual evidence that you cite and should probably be at least a paragraph of 6-8 sentences.
