A Pipeline and facility Coating Training Day

The Detroit Section of NACE is pleased to announce a one day field “Hands On” Training Event for our October meeting. This event will focus on high performance atmospheric paints and below grade new construction coatings. This event is designed for those whose roles and responsibilities include: designing scope of work or applying and inspecting coating applications. This event will also satisfy "Personal Development" requirements for those with NACE CP and CIP certifications. On hand will be: Technical reps from the following companies to demonstrate proper application and inspection techniques.
Sherwin-Williams: High performance paint selection, surface preparation, application and inspection practices. Attendees will observe different profiles such as: sweep, commercial and near white sandblast. They will observe how weather conditions are monitored as well as take dry and wet film reads.
Denso: Preparation of pipe surfaces and proper protol applications on epoxy coated pipe. This will include proper cleaning and heating of pipe and utilizing the correct applicator to ensure proper mil coverage. Neil Pittman of Lake Superior Consulting will also be on hand to discuss liquid coating applications.
Tapecoat: Preparation of pipe surfaces and proper hot applied Tapecoat applications. Attendees will observe overlapping and patch applications on bare as well as transitioning new coating to existing coatings.
Trenton: Wax coating options for wet pipe. New construction sometimes tie in to operating systems which have condensation formed on pipe surfaces. Cold applied wax will be demonstrated as an application under these conditions.
3M: Unconventional Solutions, an authorized 3M distributer, will demonstrate proper melt stick repairs of coating holidays discovered during jeeping.
