Internal Revenue Service, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program. Student Volunteers needed. Receive training to assist low-income persons in completing their tax returns and applying for the earned income credit. Learn how to prepare basic tax returns and to file them electronically. Training classes are held annually during the month of January. Trained volunteers provide this free tax service during the months of February, March, and April. .

Junior Achievement of Silicon Valley & Monterey Bay, Inc.

Utilize the Junior Achievement Elementary School Program to teach business, economics and workplace concepts through grade-specific themes and activities in local K6 classrooms at Carson, River Glen and WashingtonSchools. RAFT – Resource Area for Teaching

A non-profit organization that believes hands-on teaching is the best way for teachers to teach and students to learn. We provide creative hands-on activities, educational resources, workshops and inexpensive materials, (many donated by local businesses), to enrich pre K-12 education and community group programs. Our goal is to assist teachers, non-profits and community groups, by providing materials and ideas for day-to-day teaching and for supporting professional growth.

RAFT relies on over 500 volunteers a month to sort, process, and assemble our 55,000 educational activity kits each year! Shifts are 3-4 hours and take place Tuesday – Saturday.

High School Students in Health Professions

The Health Trust is working to reach its goal is to increase diversity in health professions. We are looking for college students who are pursuing a health career or current health professionals to speak at ethnically diverse high schools in Santa ClaraCounty about your chosen career. The Health Trust provides resource materials for speakers including sample presentations, audience handouts, and health statistics specific to Santa ClaraCounty and coordinates directly with the school site to identify and schedule a presentation time that matches the speaker’s availability. Skills and Characteristics desired are ability to Speak to high school students about their specific health interest. Requirements are: must be a college student pursuing a health career or a current health professional, must be available during school hours and must have convenient transportation. If service hours are needed, The Health Trust can provide volunteer credit for your speaking and preparation time.

Health Fairs in October

The Health Trust needs volunteers to help in Open-Air Health Fair at the San Jose Berryessa Flea Market which occurs annually a Saturday and Sunday in October. Free screenings, health education and exhibits will be available. Spanish and Vietnamese speaking volunteers are needed to participate as one-on-one translators for attendees going through the health screening process. Skills desired are the ability to speak Spanish or Vietnamese.

Meals on Wheels, AHealth Trust Program

Offers volunteer opportunities in multiple programs. Deliver meals through our Meals On Wheels program, provide groceries and nutritional supplements to clients through our AIDS Services program, teach elementary students the importance of nutrition and physical activity through our TEACH program, encourage high school students to pursue health career through our Speaker's Bureau, or volunteer at our annual events such as the Open Air Health Fair.

Improves quality of life and reduces loneliness of long term care residents by making visitors one-to-one friends.
