A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in loving memory and honor of Robert E. Rice, Jr.

With deepest respect, we pay homage and tribute to Robert E. Rice, Jr., and we pause in silent reverence for his soul.

WHEREAS, Robert E. Rice, Jr., was born on July 27, 1919, a native of Shelbyville, Tennessee and long-time resident of Fayette County, and he traversed these earthly bounds on December 26, 2000; and

WHEREAS, Robert E. Rice, Jr., was the loving son of the late Robert Ewing Rice and Myrtle Morton Rice; he was the devoted husband of Jean Ray Rice, and he was the loving father of two sons, Robert E. Rice, III, and daughter-in-law, Lorie Palmer Rice of Hartford, Connecticut and Montpelier, Vermont and Steven E. Rice and daughter-in-law, Debbie McMahan Rice of Lexington; and he was the proud grandfather of a granddaughter, Mindy Rice and a grandson, Andy Rice; and

WHEREAS, Robert E. Rice, Jr., received his BA degree from the University of Kentucky and his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Kentucky College of Law; he had been in independent law practice since 1948, and he served eight years as Master Commissioner with Fayette County Circuit Court; and

WHEREAS, Robert E. Rice, Jr., served his country with pride during World War II in the Africa-Middle East Theater where he attained the rank of Captain in the United States Army; and

WHEREAS, Robert E. Rice, Jr., was an esteemed member of the Fayette County community where he was a devout member, deacon, and choir member of Central Christian Church; he was a member of Lexington Kiwanis Club for thirty-five years, and he was a member of the Fayette County, Kentucky, and American Bar Associations; and

WHEREAS, all who knew and admired Robert E. Rice, Jr., will grieve over their loss, and he is mourned across the length and breadth of the Commonwealth;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. This honorable body does hereby express its profound sense of sorrow upon the passing of Robert E. Rice, Jr., and extends to his family and many friends its most heartfelt sympathy.

Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in loving memory and honor of Robert E. Rice, Jr.

Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Mrs. Jean Ray Rice, 1550 Meadowthorpe Avenue, Lexington, Kentucky 40511.
