POSITION DESCRIPTION

COORDINATOR OF CHILDREN & YOUTH MUSIC

(20 HOURS/WEEK)

LEVEL 4: NON-EXEMPT

I.MAJOR PURPOSE

Provide a ministry at RBCPC to disciple youth and children in a growing faith in Jesus Christ through the ministry of music, and in doing so; insure that personal, emotional and spiritual needs of the participants are addressed, as well as reach out to children, youth, and their families to provide an expression of evangelism.

II.SCOPE

The Coordinator will work with and under the direction of the Director of Student Ministries and in collaboration with the Director of Worship, Music & Arts in reaching out to and connecting youth and children in the church and from the community through music, in addition to providing music opportunities in worship services throughout the year, coordinating activities with Coordinator of Theatre Arts as needed.

III.MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Provide leadershipfor and direct all aspects of the ministry of children and youth music.
  2. Provide musical leadership for special worship services throughout the year.
  3. Provide creative input to help design creative worship experiences.
  4. In collaboration with Worship Director and Coordinator of Theatre Arts,create and design special worship services, particularly those with an emphasis on youth and/or children.
  5. Provide leadership, creativity, and expertisein establishing a community outreach program in partnership with the other children’s/youth ministries.
  6. Coordinate with Student Ministries to foster spiritual growth in young people and provide leadership in building a spiritual community.
  7. Provide coordination and safety compliance of the volunteers who serve in the ministry and ensure departmental adherence to church policies.

IV.SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Children’s Choirs
  1. Create curriculum for, and direct the children’s choir.
  2. Prepare and plan for rehearsals and worship.
  3. Lead the choir in worship once a month, and at special services as needed.
  4. Recruit children into the program.
  5. Build relationships with the children and pray for them regularly.
  6. Plan and implement mid-week supplementary activities in support of music education curriculum.
  7. Oversee the Children’s Choir accompanist, administrative support staff,and volunteers.
  8. Provide vision and long range goals, including outreach opportunities, for the Children’s Choir Ministry.
  1. Youth Choir
  1. Select music and direct choir rehearsals.
  2. Prepare and plan for rehearsals and worship.
  3. Lead the choir in worship as scheduledand at special services as needed.
  4. Recruit youth into the program.
  5. Build relationships with the youth and pray for them regularly.
  1. Oversee the Youth Choir accompanist, administrative support staff and volunteers.
  1. Provide vision and long range goals, including outreach opportunities, for the Youth Choir Ministry.
  1. Youth Musical
  1. Offer musical training and support for Youth Musical.
  2. Encourage, support and pray for the youth.
  1. Program Support Activities
  1. Develop other support activities for the Youth Music program, such as Youth Choir Retreats, Tours, etc., as needed for the development and enhancement of the Youth Music program.
  2. Plan, organize, and prepare creative activities for the trips.
  1. Youth Ensemble and Treblemakers
  1. Organize music and conduct rehearsals for the above ensemble groups.
  2. Participate in regular worship services and special worship services as needed.
  3. Participate in community events when appropriate.
  4. Recruit youth and adults into the program as needed.
  5. Build relationships with the participants and pray for them regularly
  1. Interdepartmental Responsibilities
  2. Relates to Director of Student Ministries for coordination with overall student ministry program.
  3. Relates to Director of Worship, Music & Arts for coordination with worship activities and development of educational/curricular and performance quality goals and objectives.
  4. Relates to Coordinator of Theatre Arts for coordination with theatre activities, family worship and other shared ministry activities.
  1. Summer Theater for Children
  2. Provide music rehearsal for cast of Summer Theatre for Children.
  3. Encourage, support and pray for the children.
  4. Build and guide volunteer staff of older youth leaders as they become Christian mentors to the younger children.
  5. Manages compliance with the RBCPC Protection Policy.
  6. Perform any additional duties as requested.

V.WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

  1. Responsible to the Director of Student Ministriesto fulfill objectives.
  2. Attend staff and other meetingsas directed.
  3. Relate as a colleague with other paid and volunteer staff to ensure that relationships are collaborative and team-oriented.
  4. SupervisesChildren &Youth Music & Theatre Arts Administrative Assistant and volunteers.
  5. Has access to the Human Resources Committee of the Session in accordance with the Policy and Procedure Manual of RBCPC.

VI.QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Formal training in choral music and conducting. Bachelor of Music or equivalent required.
  2. Threeyears’ experience in leading children/youth music program to include conducting, choosing music, recruiting, and supervising volunteers.
  3. Excellent people skills and high level of creativity
  4. A committed follower of Jesus Christ.
  5. Evidence of effective collaboration with other ministries at RBCPC.
  6. Team-oriented attitude.
  7. Excellent writing and oral communication skills.
  1. REQUIREMENTS
  1. US Citizen or authorized to work in the US
  2. Good physical health
  3. Ability to lift and carry 25 pounds
  4. Ability to lift up to 75 pounds with assistance
  5. Ability to stand or walk up to 7 hours a day
  6. Ability to push or pull equipment, such as carts
  7. Requires flexibility of time and days of week
  8. Requires work on Sundays and holidays
