Project 3: Exponential Growth and Decay

You will pick two countries, one from list A and one from B, and compare their population growth (or decay) to that of the United States over the past 200 years.

Country A

What is the growth rate for Country A from 1814 to 1914?

What is the growth rate for Country A from 1914 to 2014?

What is the growth rate for Country A from 1814 to 2014?

What is the growth rate for Country A from 1989 to today?

Using the growth rate of Country A from 1989 to today, what will the population be in 100 years?

Using the growth rate of Country A from 1989 to today, when will the population double (or be half if the population is declining)?

Country B

What is the growth rate for Country B from 1814 to 1914?

What is the growth rate for Country B from 1914 to 2014?

What is the growth rate for Country B from 1814 to 2014?

What is the growth rate for Country B from 1989 to today?

Using the growth rate of Country B from 1989 to today, what will the population be in 100 years?

Using the growth rate of Country B from 1989 to today, when will the population double (or be half if the population is declining)?

The United States

What is the growth rate for the United States from 1814 to 1914?

What is the growth rate for the United States from 1914 to 2014?

What is the growth rate for the United States from 1814 to 2014?

What is the growth rate for the United States from 1989 to today?

Using the growth rate of the United States from 1989 to today, what will the population be in 100 years?

Using the growth rate of the United States from 1989 to today, when will the population double (or be half if the population is declining)?

Part III: Comparisons (15 points)

Write a one page, double spaced, 1 inch margins, 12 point font paper comparing these different growth rates. Make sure to include which country had the highest and lowest growth (or decay) rate, and for which years. Sometimes countries see a reduction in populations due to violence, disease, or other catastrophes, make sure to include and explain reasons why the three countries have the growth or decay rates they have.
