Fischer Family Trust ELS
Designed by the Hertfordshire NLS Team
First piloted in Hertfordshire!
Currently, schools in 10 LEAs and an Education Action Zone are using the programme. The Trust has worked closely with the DfES and the NLS team during the development of the programme. At a recent DfES hosted conference for LEAs implementing the FFT ELS, Stephen Anwyll (NLS National Director) encouraged LEAs to maintain the current level of implementation and offer the programme to all interested schools.
If your school is looking for a longer and more intensive model of ELS then you may be interested in the following information.
- The Fischer Family Trust Early Literacy Support (ELS) Programme is a longer programme with the capacity to support children from Y1 Term 2 to Y2 Term 1.
- The materials comprise a file containing session plans, monitoring information for schools, CD containing all materials, spiral bound resource pack for each module, posters, strategy cards, motivational stickers, certificates and much more! Over 100 Hertfordshire schools are already using FFT Reading and Writing Strategy Posters – not just in their Year 1 classrooms.
- Each session is dedicated to either Guided Reading or Guided Writing or Phonics – this allows for the consolidation and application of skills, particularly valuable for strengthening writing. In 2002 KS1 SATs, 90% of children who had followed the programme achieved Level 2 in writing – 45% achieving 2b+.
- The programme is tried and tested. The implementations have been closely monitored over three years enabling a continuous improvement model. Feedback from users has resulted in a strengthened package of session plans, resources, support materials and ongoing training for TAs.
- Both the short and long term effects have been evaluated by Jane Hurry et al at the Institute of Education, University of London. Reports available through the Trust (01462 708685).
- A school near you will have implemented the programme – if you would like to make contact, please call Rosemary Williamson at the Fischer Family Trust (01462 708685).
