Instructions for Creating a Deer Web Page

Create a table

  1. Table icon, common toolbar
  2. One row, one column
  3. Table width change from 100% to 700 pixels.
  4. Header none.
  5. Change the border number to zero so that none of the lines show. You will see a light gray dotted line while you create the page, but the user will not.
  6. ALL WORK STAYS INSIDE THE LINES FOR THE WHOLE WEB PAGE!

Change the Background color

  1. Click on modify menu at the top of the screen and choose page properties.
  2. Click on background color arrow to see the color choices.
  3. Select the light yellow or cream color.
  4. Click apply.
  5. Click Ok.

Create the Page Header.

  1. Click on the format box (none) on properties toolbar (located at the bottom of the screen).
  2. Choose Heading 1.
  3. Click on the AlignCenter button.
  4. Verdana font, 24 pt
  5. Type WHITETAIL DEER
  6. Go to the Insert menu, html, special characters, and line break. The shortcut shift and hit the enter key. This prevents a large blank space between the lines of type.
  7. Type your first and last name and press Return.
  8. Click on the Align Left button.

Insert a Horizontal Line to separate areas of information.

  1. Go to the insert menu, html, and select Horizontal rule.

Save your Web page.

1. Click on File at the top.

  1. Click on Save As from the List.
  2. In your user folder create a new folder called: white_tail_deer
  3. Save your Web page as deer_page in the folder.
  4. Click on the Save button or press Return.

Remember when working with computers, it is a smart idea to save your work early and save it often so that you don’t lose what you have already done.

Enter Text.

  1. Use the handout provided to enter your text in the correct area.
  2. Press Return once.
  3. Enter the headings in Times New Roman, 18 pt, and bold at the left with one return before and after.
  4. Enter all paragraphs in Times New Roman, 14 pt, no bold and align at the left.
  5. Enter the heading Other Species using the settings above for headings. Do not enter anything else below that until directed.

Insert pictures, format it, and align it.

  1. Go the insert menu, select, image.
  2. Find the picture whitetail deer doe picture in the business education folder on the Vol. 1 student server. Choose the image from the web page graphic folder.
  3. Change from a list view to a thumbnail view using the view icon.
  4. Double click on the picture to insert.
  5. Yes to save a copy.
  6. Get to your file folder where the deer page is saved. Save the image in the white_tail_deer folder where the web page is located.
  7. Click save.
  8. Alternate text: use the name of the deer ex: buck, doe, Axis, Red
  9. Adjust the size to fit the sample handout.
  10. Right click on the picture, align and select right alignment or down below in properties change the align box from default to right.
  11. Next insert the buck picture from the bus ed web graphic folder.
  12. Adjust the size to fit the sample handout.
  13. Right click on the picture, align and select left alignment or down below in properties change the align box from default to left.
  14. Now insert the fawn picture from the bus ed web graphic folder.
  15. Adjust the size and alignment to fit the sample handout.

Save

Insert a Horizontal Line.

Create a table to insert words and pictures

  1. Click the table icon on the common toolbar
  2. Four columns and three rows.
  3. Border=1
  4. Header=none

Enter table information

  1. Enter the animal names (14 pt, Times New Roman, bold) in the first and third columns, using tab to move around the table. Use the handout as a guide.
  2. Insert the pictures in the second and fourth columns. Use the handout for a guide. The pictures are located in the bus ed web graphics folder on the student server drive X. Adjust the sizes using the handout as a guide.
  3. Move the column lines between the words and their pictures closer to the words. Now the animal picture and the word should be closer.
  4. Place your cursor down below this table, but stay inside the main table you created at the beginning.

Save

Inserting an Hyperlink

  1. Center, Times, 18 pt-Type the following line: Click here to learn more about other deer species.
  2. Drag and highlight the text to select it.
  3. Click on the Hyperlink button on the common toolbar.
  4. Enter this web address in the link box:
  5. Click ok
  6. It should now be blue and underlined.

Inserting a Anchor to the top

  1. Return one time after the hyperlink
  2. Center the word Top in 18 pt, Times
  3. Go back to the top and put your cursor in front of the main title.
  4. Select the anchor icon on the common toolbar.
  5. Name it top
  6. At the bottom highlight the word top
  7. Click on the hyperlink button on the common toolbar.
  8. In the link window pop down the arrow and select, the anchor called top.

Inserting an email link

  1. Return one time after the hyperlink
  2. Center the words Contact Us in 18 pt, Times
  3. Highlight the text.
  4. Choose the email icon on the common toolbar.
  5. Enter the following email address:
  6. Click ok.

Change the Document Title

  1. In the title box located to the left of the preview icon (earth pict) enter the document name: White Tail Deer. You should notice the title at the top of the window when you preview in Internet Explorer and also when you print in Explorer.

Spell check, Proofread, and Save your web page one more time!

Print your Assignment

  1. Preview/Debug in browser using IE.
  2. File menu, print preview.
  3. Click the next and previous arrow buttons to see all of your pages. There should only be two pages!
  4. If not only two pages: return to Dreamweaver, adjust your graphic sizes, and check the number of returns in the page you created.
  5. Preview in the browser IE again.
  6. File menu, print preview.
  7. Print from IE when you have only two pages.
  8. Staple and turn in.
