IMPORTANT INFORMATION: These travel awards s are supported through the Minority Access to Research Careers (MARC) Program, federally funded by the National Institute of General Medical Sciences/National Institutes of Health. Qualified minority groups that are underrepresented in the biomedical and behavioral sciences include: African Americans, Alaskan Natives, Hispanic Americans, Latinos, Native Americans, and Natives of the U.S.A. Pacific Islands.

Qualified minority groups must be citizens or non-citizennationals of the United States of America or must have been lawfully admitted to the United States of America for permanent residence and have in possession a permanent visa at the time of application. Applicants must possess a current/valid green card. Applicants must also reside within the U.S.A. or U.S.A. territories.

Underrepresented minority graduate students and postdoctoral fellows meeting the citizenship /residency requirements at accredited majority institutions are eligible to apply for the travel award. Full-time graduate students and postdoctoral fellows at accredited minority institutions are also eligible to apply for this award.

*Individuals on temporary or student visas are not eligible for MARC funding.

*Federal employees are not eligible for MARC funding. We are prohibited from providing federal funds to federal employees and trainees at federal facilities who receive federal support for their salary/wages.

SDB MEMBER APPLICANTS WHO WISH TO BE CONSIDERED FOR TRAVEL AWARD FUNDING MUST:

1)Be a USA Citizen or a Permanent Resident of the USA. (Copy of Permanent Resident “green card’ will be required.)

2)Advance register for the meeting. Follow abstract submission guidelines. After you have been notified of acceptance of your abstract by the meeting officials, complete and submit this application form including a copy of your notification of acceptance letter of your research abstract, plus a copy of your accepted abstract.

3)Submit a CV/Resume (including any federal funding support you receive).

4)Submit a one-page statement demonstrating financial need and identifying potential benefits to be gained and the anticipated effect this may have on your planned research career.

5)Submit a letter of recommendation on departmental letterhead signed by the department head/chair or dean. Be sure to include the email address and daytime phone number of your mentor, chair or dean.

6)Submit any required documentation (copy of green card, tribal affiliation certificate, etc.) if applicable.

The FASEB MARC Program review committee working in partnership with SDB leadership/staff will select the award recipients based on the applicants’ written statements of financial need, benefits to be gained by participating in the course, submitted abstract and all supporting documentation from applicants who are eligible for MARC funding as specified by the National Institute of General Medical Sciences, National Institutes of Health (NIGMS/NIH.) Members of SDB will be given preference.

Applicants selected to receive a travel award will be notified by the FASEB MARC Program upon approval of their application.
