Student-free Day

Government schools are entitled to four school council approved student-free days per year. One is used at the start of the year to prepare for the upcoming year, two are used to write school reports and the fourth usually falls in Term 3 at Zeerust. This is when Mrs. Telford and I head off on our road trip. We will be visiting two similar sized schools to Zeerust and stealing their good ideas. The new JSC structure came from last year’s visit. Our next road trip is scheduled for Tuesday the 16th of August.

Catch them being good

The following students were caught being clever:

Lucy and Diesel.

Our winner was Lucy for her clever writing.

The following students were caught being good:

Alice (3), Stephanie (2), Seth, Charli (2), Dakota, Aden (2) and Lucy (2).

Our winner was Seth for joining in with a game of soccer at playtime.

DOXA City Camp

This year, we are doing something quite different to our usual practice of going to 15 Mile Creek. We are off to Melbourne for three-days and two nights (October 24-26). The cost of this very well subsidised camp is $90 per student and that includes accommodation and meals and travel, which is by train. We will be departing from, and returning to, the Shepparton train station. A copy of our program is attached but please note we won’t be attending “Matilda’ as its run will be over.

A member of the DOXA camp staff will accompany our group everywhere from the moment we arrive at Southern Cross Station. Dhurringile and Waaia schools are coming along too.

A permission form can be found elsewhere in this newsletter. At this point I just want the permission forms from everyone who would like to attend so we can get the planning sorted out in a timely manner. I will be asking for the money later.

Camp and Behaviour Policy

At Zeerust it is our preference to offer whole-school camps; we like to take everybody, teachers and students. However, it is school policy not to take students on camp whose behaviour is an issue. I have very recently spoken with parents of students I have concerns about with respect to camp. These students still have plenty of time (11 weeks) to convince me they should be included in our camp. My main concern, and I am sure it is yours too, is that every student on the camp will be safe.

Parent opinion survey

Thank you to everyone who filled in the survey so far. However, some of you have not provided your input. There is still time.

Census

Mrs. Roberts has conducted a check of our records and some of you will be getting letters requesting information we don’t yet have.
