Nighthawk Composite Squadron TX – 413
A Guide to the Phases of a Specialty Qualification Training Record (SQTR)
PURPOSE
This guide will show Nighthawk members the phases and requirements of a SQTR.
In order to progress through a Qualification, you must complete 5 phases:
- Basic GES
- Prerequisites
- Familiarization and PreparatoryTraining
- Advanced Training
- Exercise Participation
Basic GES
These 3 steps are basically 3 tests you need to take and pass. All of them are open book tests and only need to be taken once.
The first test you need to take is CAPT 117. There are 3 parts to 117, different parts for different specialties.
The tests, along with CAPT 116 (GES) is available to be taken online at
These tests should automatically show up in your SQTR.
NOTE: Remember to save/print your certificate at the end for verification so you do not need to retake the test.
Your will also need to take the course and tests for IS-100 and IS-700, which are 2 FEMA run courses.
IS-100:
IS-700:
On both of these pages, click on the "Interactive web-based course" and follow the instruction to complete the course. Take notes if that works well for you.
Once you have completed this course, go back to the original page and on the right, click on "Take the IS-XXX Final Exam".
Prerequisites
Before you can become a trainee for a task, you need to complete the Prerequisites
After completing all the tasks for the Prerequisites, you must get Commanders approval. This also applies to the Familiarization &Prepartory Training.
Congratulations! You are now an official trainee in your selected qualification!
Note: You need to wait for Lt Col Woolfolk or Capt Robertson to approve your Prerequisites before the specialty will show up on your 101 card as Trainee Status.
Familiarization and PreparatoryTraining
You then must complete the Familiarization and Preparatory Training (F&Ps) BEFORE you can start training in the field. Most of these are classroom activities.
As with the prerequisites, you must also submit and wait for commander’s approval.
Advanced Training
Congratulations! You can now start doing the real fun stuff, working and training in the field. While you are in the field, you will complete the next segment of a SQTR, the Advanced Training.
The Advanced Training usually has the most tasks to complete than the other 2 phases, but they are usually the most “hands on” tasks. Many of the tasks requireBCUT (Basic Communications) and Basic First Aid.
Unlike the prerequisites and the F&Ps, the Advanced Training does NOT require commander approval.
Exercise Participation
You are almost fully qualified! Only a few more steps to go!
During you Advanced Training, you would have most likely signed off the tasks on SAREXs.
The next step is Exercise Participation. In this step, you need to participate in 2 Search and Rescue Exercises (SAREXs) and provide their mission number. You need to perform in the Specialty over at least four hours and on two different dates.
And thats it! You will now be qualified in your selected qualification! Just repeat these steps for each qualification and you will be on your way!
