ESL 91--Psychology
One Child
Write a well-developed essay in which you will use the concept of resiliency from the article, The Miracle of Resiliency, as it applies to Sheila from One Child.
In order to do that, you need to explain what resiliency is and how it can help understand what happens to children from dysfunctional families or who live under stress. Do not expect the reader to know about resiliency--it is your job as a writer to explain and to illustrate your explanations.
Remember that your reader does not know anything about Sheila nor about Torey and has not read the book, so you need to give full information both about the book and its main character. You need to summarize all the information about Sheila: her background and family, her physical and mental condition, her behaviors--and explain them thoroughly, using in your analysis the terms and definitions we have identified in our class discussions.
Your major concern about writing this paper should be how you will structure it, with these two pieces combined in a way that is logical and clear. This task is completely up to you, so some outlining is necessary. You can start with the theory (about resiliency) or with Sheila’s story, but you need to create logical connections. Do not forget to create an Introduction, which would state the main point of your essay, and a Conclusion, to summarize all.
GOOD LUCK!
