Background and Context

The University of Hull, Faculty of Health Sciences has an established and excellent reputation locally, nationally and internationally for its high quality undergraduate, postgraduate and professional educational provision and has a growing reputation for its research. The interdisciplinary School of Health and Social Work brings together Clinical Psychologists and CBT therapists alongsideMental Health and Learning Disability Nursing and Social Workin a positive and open culture of learning and exchange. The Post Graduate Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) offers training for up to 30 post graduate trainees as well supporting health care practitionersin post registration training. This course has developed to support practitioners in developing key competencies in CBT for Serious Mental Illness (SMI) conditions as well as in the fundamentals of CBT for common disorders. The course has an active role in developing CBT training for Psychosis in accordance with recent government standards.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities of the post

The post holder will be accountable for the effective and efficient development, delivery and co-ordination of the PG Diploma inCognitive Behavioural Therapy which specialises in secondary mental health care/SMI conditions. We are seeking a qualified practitioner/academic with a strong interest in psychological therapies training, together with a demonstrated commitment to high quality research. Applicants should have experience of delivering, managing and/or teaching psychological interventions and services, particularly CBT. Individuals with experience of research and related publications are encouraged to apply. The successful applicant should be accreditedwith the BABCP, or be able to demonstrate eligibility for immediate application and have experience in supervision and the management of supervision.

GENERIC JOB DESCRIPTION

Main Work Activities

Teaching and Learning

  • Coordinate the development and delivery of modules across the PG Dip programme. This will include CBT for SMI (Psychosis/ Bipolar Disorder and Personality Disorders and Complex Presentations)
  • Deliver teaching sessions across the PG Dip programme with a focus on the post holder’s area of interest.
  • Act as admission tutor for the programme
  • Support the progression of students though the programme in line with University and any relevant statutory body requirements
  • Liaise with the Director of Teaching and Learning and Director of Student Experience regarding mitigating circumstance applications
  • Carry out assessment for programmes. Includes designing assessment instruments and criteria; marking assessments ensuring adequate moderation; providing written feedback to students;
  • Liaise with programme administrators to prepare information for programme boards and results release
  • Attend examination boards, providing insight and information into the performance of students
  • Follow up matters arising from programme boards in collaboration with the examination board Chair
  • Work with the Director of Teaching and Learning and School Quality Office to recruit and support external examiners
  • Carry out course evaluation including facilitating student feedback; reflecting on teaching and implementing ideas for improving performance
  • Contribute to the selection processes for applicants to the Programmes.

Scholarly Activity

  • Engage in research and other scholarly activities
  • Develop programme related objectives, projects and proposals.
  • Conduct individual or collaborative projects for programme development purposes.
  • Write or contribute to publications and/or disseminate programme outputs using other appropriate media.
  • Make presentations at conferences and/or exhibit work at other appropriate event where possible.

Relationships and Team Working

  • Co-ordinate supervisor training and support, and provide liaison advice and consultation for NHS services where students are employed
  • Develop and build internal and external contacts, which may include contributing to trainee recruitment, securing clinical placements, marketing the institution, facilitating outreach work, and developing research projects.
  • Chair and co-ordinate programme team meetings
  • Participate in programme, School and Faculty committees.

Trainee Support

  • Ensurean adequate provision of student support to aid personal and professional development andfacilitate a high standard of welfare. This will include taking on the Academic Support Tutor role for some trainees.

Personal and Professional Development

  • Ongoing clinical work in a local healthcare setting.
  • Comply with BABCP practitioner standards
  • Participate in the University Staff Performance and Development Review

Additionally the post holder will be required to:

  • Where a candidate cannot demonstrate experience of teaching and /or they do not already hold a Postgraduate Certificate in HE, they will be required to undertake a Postgraduate Certificate in HE if successful. Proven experience of teaching would include sufficient breadth or depth of specialist knowledge in the discipline and of teaching methods and techniques.
