Classroom Procedures for Wyant’s Class
Classroom procedures:
v Statements of student expectations necessary to participate successfully in classroom activities, to learn, and to function effectively in the school environment.
v Allow many different activities to take place efficiently during the school day, often several at the same time, with a minimum of wasted time and confusion.
v Increase time on task and reduce classroom disruptions.
v Tell students how things operate in a classroom, thus reducing discipline problems.
Starting class
Each day when class begins (you enter the classroom), there will be an assignment posted or displayed on the white board. You are to read the directions and immediately begin the assignment. Please do not wait for the bell to ring. This is called the “starter.” Generally, you will be given five minutes to complete the assignment. If more time is necessary, the amount of time you have to complete the assignment will be posted.
Getting the students’ attention
Mrs. Wyant will stand quietly in front of the podium and wait for you to get quiet.
Sharpening your pencil and getting a tissue
You do not need to ask permission to perform either of these tasks. Both the pencil sharpener (automatic, on the counter) and the Kleenex (on the counter) are located at the front of the room. Please get up quietly from your seat and do what you need to do and quietly return to your seat. Be reasonable! If Mrs. Wyant is in the middle of explaining an assignment, etc., please wait until she is finished.
Being unprepared for class
If you have forgotten to bring something to write with or something to write on, please quietly ask a neighbor if you can borrow the supplies you need for class. If no classmate has something for you to write with or write on, you may borrow some from Mrs. Wyant if you have asked permission. If you have forgotten your text, you may ask Mrs. Wyant to borrow a copy before class. One will be loaned to you if there is one available, otherwise, you will have to complete your class work as homework. All borrowed items must be returned at the end of the hour.
Classroom materials
Beyond paper, pencil and your text, you may need other things to complete or turn in assignments. Those materials (markers, highlighters, glue sticks, scissors, colored pencils, etc.) are located in the black file drawers near Mrs. Wyant’s desk (near the windows). Use what you need and return them when you are finished.
Questions
If you have a question, please raise your hand and wait for Mrs. Wyant to call on you.
Passes
No passes will be given out the first or last ten minutes of class. Due to problems in the past and in an attempt to be consistent with other staff members, you will be allowed ONE PASS per nine weeks. You will be given four tickets that will be your ticket out of class during the year. You may use this pass to get materials from your locker, use the restroom, or get a drink. Mrs. Wyant will keep track of this usage by having you sign your name and time in and out on the ticket. Tickets will be collected to keep track of use.
Turning in work
If work is assigned on Google Classroom, turn it in online. For other work, label your work by printing your name, date, and class period at the top of the paper and Mrs. Wyant will collect your work.
Emergency Drills
Fire Drill-Please sit quietly and wait for Mrs. Wyant to dismiss the class. Leave all materials in the classroom and proceed quietly out the classroom door and out the front door located on the immediate right. Please walk quietly across the teachers’ parking lot and stop in order for Mrs. Wyant to take attendance. Stay with your class.
Tornado Drill-Please sit quietly and wait for Mrs. Wyant to dismiss the class. Leave all materials in the classroom and proceed quietly to the girls’ locker room. Sit down, remain quiet and wait for Mrs. Wyant to take roll.
Disaster Drill-Remain calm and move to the back of the room. Mrs. Wyant needs to move to secure the room. Sit quietly until the drill is complete.
Leaving class
Sit quietly in your seat until the bell rings. Once the bell has rung, you may leave class.
Make-Up Work
All make-up work will be posted on Google Classroom. If there is an assignment for the day, please complete. If any handouts were given, instructions for securing those upon your return will also be in Google Classroom. If there is some other type of assignment, I will post an announcement to let you know what to complete for make-up. If you’ve been absent, meaning work is being turned in late, please email Mrs. Wyant to make her aware of its completion.
