Tenure-Track Assistant or Associate Professor Position

Description: The University of Georgia Department of Elementary and Social Studies Education seeks to fill a full-time, tenure-track position at the assistant or associate professor rank in middle grades (grades 4-8) education. This is an academic-year appointment that begins August 2008.

The Middle School Program offers B.S.Ed., M.Ed., and Ed.S. degrees and is one of only two institutions in the United States offering a Ph.D. in Middle School Education. Detailed information about the program is available at http://www.coe.uga.edu/esse.

Qualifications: Candidates must have an earned doctorate with a concentration in middle grades education, teacher education, a subject matter area, or a related field, and teaching experience in grades 4-8. Applicants with expertise and research related to mathematics or science education for young adolescents, middle grades education, and issues of diversity in a global context are particularly welcome. Applicants should have a strong potential for or a proven track record in obtaining external funding.

Responsibilities: Faculty members are expected to maintain an active and productive research agenda, seek external funding for research, teach middle grades education graduate and undergraduate courses, supervise students in field experiences, advise graduate students, direct graduate student research, and participate in ongoing program development.
