Responsibilities:
The Manager of Educational Initiatives is responsible for managing, implementing and directing K-12 teacher partnerships, Distance Learning program and educational outreach initiatives for the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center both locally and nationally to promote the mission of the museum.
School Relationships (60%)
- Maintain district level contact and create new relationships to increase repeat school group visits*
- Re-establish and facilitate Teacher Advisory Council*
- Create and deliver teacher institutes and/or workshops related to relevant topics, changing and permanent exhibits*
- Create and maintain K-12 relationships amongst school districts in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana*
- Create multi-media means of maintaining open communication (newsletters, e-blasts, etc.)*
- Create and deliver teacher institutes and/or workshops related to relevant topics, changing and permanent exhibitsthat drive departmental revenue*
- Act as the liaison between educators and the museum*
- Oversee museum school group program(s)*
Curriculum Development (20%)
- Coordinate planning and implementation for promotions of curriculum nationally and locally*
- Create curriculum and activities related to permanent and changing exhibits for access nationally and locally*
- Create curriculum and activities relevant to the UGRR and/or Modern Day Slavery*
- Create new and update existing digital resources*
- Create and maintain curriculum and content of Traveling Trunk program*
Management(15%)
- Supportplanning and implementation of public programs
- Develop and manage education budget*
- Evaluate and report on programs and events*
- Develop clear goals, expectations and measures that align with overall institution goals*
- Develop and oversee special projects*
- Completes other duties as assigned*
Professional Development (5%)
- Stay current on research as it pertains to the position
- Attend conferences, webinars, CMG training to remain current with museum updates as budget permits
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Arts in Education, History, Sociology or related field required, Master’s degree preferred
- Demonstrated experience working with youth organization and community programs, strong knowledge of Underground Railroad and African American history preferred
- Demonstrated teaching experience
- Proficient knowledge of distance learning
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to adapt quickly and remain flexible
- Ability to work with a diverse workforce
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Suite
Working Conditions:
Standard office environment when doing administrative tasks associated with positions. Must be able to lift 35 lbs. Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time. May be required to perform other duties as requested or assigned.
Additional Information:
Position is full time. Flexible day, weekend and evening availability necessary. Must work some holidays.
