Monday-Topic 1 Understanding Addition Review

CCSS: 1.OA.1, 1.OA.3

  1. Topic 1 Interactive Math Story “Beach Count” from Math Big Book-follow teacher directions on teacher’s guide pg. 1E and 1F to help students add 2 numbers together to make a greater number.
  2. Topic 1 Understanding Addition Review vocabulary terms: in all, inside, outside, part, whole, double, plus, add, sum, addition, sentence, equals, join, order, addend
  3. Topic 1 Understanding Addition Re-teaching packet pgs. 35-36. Class will discuss each boxed example problem of a concept (maybe with a little partner help) before checking their work on each section concept before moving to another concept section review.
  4. Topic 1 Review/Study Guide packet pgs. 37-38. Class will read the problems together and may use partner work to complete each question before moving on to the next question. After each question, work will be discussed, corrected, and checked before moving to the next question. Class will take this study guide home to practice for math assessment Topic 1 tomorrow.

Lesson 2-1: Finding Missing Parts of 6 and 7

Common Core Standards: 1.OA.4, 1.OA.6

Vocabulary: missing part

Objective: Students will solve problems by finding the missing part.

  1. Review: Daily Common Core Review worksheet 2-1: Teacher will place the worksheet under the document camera. Students will discuss to complete together to review the concepts: comparing numbers, modeling addition situations, and ordering numbers.
  2. Teacher will introduce today’s lesson 2-1 with computer CD topic 2 lesson 1.
  3. Develop the Concept: Interactive (packet sheet 41): Teacher will pass out lesson 2-1 packet to students and will follow directions on teacher’s guide pg. 41 for students to complete packet sheet. This will include using two color counters and a small cup to help find the missing parts of 6 and 7.
  4. Develop the Concept: Visual: On packet sheet 42, teacher will model how to find a missing part of a whole. Class will work together on problems on packet sheets 43-44 to answer questions on sheets and those questions given in teacher’s guide for teacher to ask same pages 42-44.
  5. Independent Practice: Students will use a cup and counters to complete Practice worksheet 2-1. After work time, teacher will place her copy under the document camera and students will discuss and check/correct their work on this sheet.
  6. Intervention activity “How Many Missing Parts?” teacher’s guide pg. 44B Need 2-color counters.
  7. To check for understanding, teacher will place the following worksheets under document camera and students will discuss to work together the problems on worksheets Re-teaching 2-1 and Enrichment 2-1.

Thursday-Lesson 2-2 Finding Missing Parts of 8

Common Core Standards: 1.OA.4, 1.OA.6

Objective: Students will find a missing part of 8 when one part is known.

  1. Review: Daily Common Core Review worksheet 2-2: Teacher will place the worksheet under the document camera. Students will discuss to complete together to review the concepts: using the commutative property, modeling addition situations, and using part-whole concepts.
  2. Teacher will introduce today’s lesson 2-2 with computer CD topic 2 lesson 2.
  3. Develop the Concept: Interactive (packet sheet 45): Teacher will pass out lesson 2-2 packet to students and will follow directions on teacher’s guide pg. 45 for students to complete packet sheet. This will include using two color counters and a dark colored paper to help find the missing part of 8.
  4. Develop the Concept: Visual: On packet sheet 46, teacher will model how to find a missing part of 8 when you know one part. Class will work together on problems on packet sheets 47-48 to answer questions on sheets and those questions given in teacher’s guide for teacher to ask same pages 47-48.
  5. Independent Practice: Students will complete Practice worksheet 2-2. After work time, teacher will place her copy under the document camera and students will discuss and check/correct their work on this sheet.
  6. Intervention activity “Hidden Counters” teacher’s guide pg. 48B Need 2-color counters.

Friday-Lesson 2-3: Finding Missing Parts of 9

Objective: Students will use subtraction to find the missing part of 9 when one part is known.

  1. Review: Daily Common Core Review worksheet 2-3: Teacher will place the worksheet under the document camera. Students will discuss to complete together to review the concepts: modeling subtraction situations, modeling addition situations, and using the commutative property.
  2. Teacher will introduce today’s lesson 2-3 with computer CD topic 2 lesson 3.
  3. Develop the Concept: Interactive (packet sheet 49): Teacher will pass out lesson 2-3 packet to students and will follow directions on teacher’s guide pg. 49 for students to complete packet sheet. This will include using two color counters and number cards 0-11 to help find the missing part of 9.
  4. Develop the Concept: Visual: On packet sheet 50, teacher will model how to use a part you know to find a missing part of 9. Class will work together on problems on packet sheets 51-52 to answer questions on sheets and those questions given in teacher’s guide for teacher to ask same pages 51-52.
  5. Independent Practice: Students will complete Practice worksheet 2-3. After work time, teacher will place her copy under the document camera and students will discuss and check/correct their work on this sheet.
