About the Position
The Olympia Public Works Department seeks a qualified individual to fill the position of Senior Planner.Initial key responsibilities will include completing a long-term storm and surface water management plan, initiating a sea level rise response plan and fulfilling water rights mitigation obligations. Annual work plans evolve as community needs evolve.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidates will have the following critical attributes:

  • A diverse knowledge of municipal water-related management skills including problem evaluation, research, planning and program development.
  • Experience facilitating and making decisions regarding complex utility policy, regulatory, operational and financial responsibilities.
  • Established experience preparing staff reports and other documents that clearly and accurately convey complex information to the public, city advisory commissions and city council.
  • Ability to apply urban environmental management practices and principles.
  • Experience building effective approaches for resolving challenges and sustaining long-term planning efforts often in coordination with other jurisdictions, agencies, elected officials and the community.
  • High level skills preparing written and verbal communications for various audiences.
  • Public outreach leadership and relationship building.
  • Ability to manage time and prioritize responsibilities with the resources available.
  • Grant and contract management experience.
  • Experience or training in geographic information systems is desirable.
  • Interest in working in a collaborative work environment.
