I.Financial

  1. A cheerleader is responsible for his/her own summer camp cost including attire, transportation, lodging, meals, and souvenirs.
  2. A cheerleader is responsible for the purchase of uniform or uniforms to be worn throughout the year. This includes any articles that accompany the uniform, such as shoes, bloomers, bows…
  3. Once a uniform is ordered, it must be paid for even if the cheerleader quits the team.
  4. A cheerleader must participate in any fundraiser the squad undertakes.
  5. Payments will be divided into installments. Because the school has a deadline to pay the camp and uniform companies by a certain due date, it is imperative all payments are made on time. Any payments made a week after the due date will result in a $20 late fee. CASH ORMONEY ORDERS ONLY!
  6. A cheerleader’s uniforms and other accessories will not be given out until full payment has been received.
  1. Grades: (The following is dependent on if the Legislature maintains the current grade requirements)
  2. A cheerleader must maintain a C average each nine weeks in every class he/she is taking. Grades will be checked each 9 weeks. Demerits will be assigned for grades falling below this average. Merits will be awarded for A’s and B’s.
  3. Failure to maintain a C will result in demerits and probation. The cheerleader will have one nine weeks to bring his/her grade up to a C average.
  4. Any cheerleader who earnsany F’s, yet fall below the total of demerits required for dismissal will receive a warning letter. The cheerleader will be given until the next Progress Report period to increase their grade. Failure to do so will result in dismissal.Any F’s will result in the cheerleader sitting out games until the grade has been brought up.
  5. This policy follows MHSAA guidelines requiring students to pass all classes to be eligible.
  6. Summer Camp
  7. Cheerleaders must attend summer camp with their squad.
  8. A cheerleader may not leave the premises of the camp without approval of the sponsor and/or camp advisor. Violation will result in dismissal from the squad.
  9. A curfew violation at summer camp will result in automatic dismissal from the squad.
  10. A cheerleader in possession of or under the influence of any alcohol, tobacco, or illegal substance will be automatically dismissed.
  11. Any cheerleaders not following the camp rules will be dismissed from the team.
  12. General
  13. All handbook policies apply to any cheerleader function, fundraiser, event, or activity held off campus.
  14. All cheer agreements and contracts must be signed by the appropriate people and returned to the coaches.
  15. A cheerleader in possession of or under the influence of any alcohol, tobacco, or illegal substance or participating in sexual behavior while participating in a school activity will be automatically dismissed.
  16. Any cheerleader posting inappropriate pictures or comments on social media can be dismissed from the team. This includes belittling or bullying other members of the team.
  17. Any cheerleader caught bullying will be dismissed from the team and be subject to punishment as mandated by the school district handbook.
  18. A cheerleader must follow and abide by the demerit system set forth by the coach.
  19. A cheerleader is required to follow the exercise, strength, stretching program implemented by the coach. Failure to complete the daily program will result in demerits or reprimands. Remember that cheerleading is a class and failure to participate will result in a lowered grade.
  20. A cheerleader will complete responsibilities assigned to them such as handouts, signs, etc…Failure to do so in a timely manner will result in demerits and possible probation.
  21. Out of school suspension will result in automatic dismissal from the squad. ISD will result in a warning letter and sitting out a game.(this applies for one year from the date of the infraction)
  22. Once selected, the cheerleader must receive a doctor’s physical before practicing with the squad. If there is a question of fitness, the cheerleader must be released by a doctor before participating with the squad.
  23. All cheerleaders MUST travel to the game on the selected form of transportation. You will be allowed to ride home with your parents ONLY with written permission and approval from your coach. You must be signed out before you can leave and cannot leave with anyone other than a parent. Violation of this policy will result in dismissal.
  24. Cheerleaders are responsible for keeping sidelines and practice areas neat and clean; this includes rolling out/up mats at practice. If the practice areas or sidelines are excessively untidy, the cheerleaders will be forced to run after practice. EVERYONE is required to help with supplies and mats; failure to do so will result in extra conditioning. Continuous failure to do one’s part will result in suspension from the team.
  25. A cheerleader who quits in the middle of a season for any reason will not be allowed to try out for one calendar year. The cheerleader will be removed from the cheer class at mid-semester and a grade of “F” will be awarded to the cheerleader for the cheer class.
  26. Cheerleading is a class and should be considered as such. Attendance to class is a must! Lack of participation or not following guidelines will result in a decreased cheer grade.
  27. Any cheerleader who leaves a game early, intending not to cheer, without proper cause determined by the coaches, will be automatically dismissed from the squad.
  28. NO JUNK FOOD! If a cheerleader is seen drinking a soda or eating considerable amounts of junk food at practice, the cheerleader will receive extra laps. Continuing in this behavior will result in demerits. This policy is to prevent cheerleaders from becoming ill from eating junk food in the middle of practice.
  29. No cell phones at practice. Any cheerleader caught with a cell phone out at practice will be told to leave practice. The coaches will not fight your phone for your attention. All cell phones should be on silent during practice. If it rings, the cheerleader will be assigned extra conditioning.
  30. Tryouts
  31. The student must be passing at least 5 classes at the end of the first semester in order to be able to try out. For every D a candidate has at the end of the 1st semester, they will take a 1 point deduction. For every F a candidate has, they will take a 2 point deduction. You also cannot have been suspended within the current school year.
  32. If a student’s grade falls below a C avg. and he/she makes the squad, the cheerleader will be given the remainder of the school year to improve the grade before an action is taken.
  33. They must have a current physical to try out.
  34. The coaches on or prior to the day of tryouts will determine the number of squad members.
  35. There will be two squads: Varsity and 9th grade.
  36. Varsity Squad: The varsity squad will possibly consist of students from grades 10 through 12. Varsity cheerleaders will cheer all football games and home basketball games.
  37. 9th grade Squad: The Freshman squad will possibly consist of students from grade 9. Students will cheer 9th grade/JV home football and 9th grade home basketball games. 9th graders may be asked to cheer at varsity games should the need arise.
  38. Competition Squad: The competition squad will consist of students from grades 9-12. The coaches will decide the number of cheerleaders competing. The competition squad will be chosen based on tryout scores, work ethic, and attitude. The coaches have the final say over the competition squad roster. Competition is no longer optional as it will not be costing extra money.
  39. Competition
  40. All competition practices must be attended.
  41. All competitions selected by the coaching staff are REQUIRED.
  42. For the two weeks prior to a required competition, no cheerleader may miss a practice. Missing will result in losing his/her spot for the particular competition. The coaches are ultimately responsible for deciding who stays or is replaced on the squad.
  43. Squad members must follow additional regulations outlined on the Competition Squad Agreement Sheet.
  44. Cheerleaders can be removed from the competition squad for failure to attend practices, maintain a good attitude, or start excessive conflicts with the squad.
  45. Game Regulations
  46. No jewelry, long nails, or polish. Cheerleaders may also not have crazy colored hair, such as green, purple, pink, etc., because it does not allow for uniformity of the team. Sublimated piercings are jewelry and a cheerleader will not be allowed to cheer with one. (Failure to adhere to rules will result in cheerleader sitting out.) This is in accordance with the MHSAA guidelines and the National Federation of High School cheerleading.
  47. NO BELLY RINGS OF ANY KIND!
  48. Cheerleaders MAY NOT miss games. The only acceptable absence is due to illness, hospitalization, or a family member’s funeral. COACHES must be notified ahead of time. Injured cheerleaders must attend the game, dressed out, but will be allowed to sit with the coaches.
  49. During games, competitions, or other appearances as a squad, the cheerleader must wear hair up WITH THE PROPER BOW.
  50. The correct uniform must be worn for all appearances. This includes bloomers, bow, warm-ups, shoes… Cheerleaders will receive demerits and conditioning for failure to be in the correct uniform and accessories.
  51. Cheerleaders may not leave a game early. Don’t even ask!
  52. Cheerleaders must follow proper game procedures outlined by the coaches prior to the start of the season.
  53. Cheerleaders must know all routines, cheers, chants…The coaches reserve the right to “bench” a cheerleader if they do not know the material.
  54. Certain supplies, including signs, poms, and first aid supplies, are needed for travel to games. If a cheerleader is placed in charge of certain supplies, it is their responsibility to make sure those supplies are brought to designated area. Failure to do so will result in demerits and/or extra conditioning.
  55. Any cheerleader not on time, which means in the correct area at the correct time, will sit out the first fifteen minutes of that game.
  56. Practice Regulations
  57. Cheerleaders must wear assigned practice clothes. This makes it easier to see if the squad is correct on timing, placement, etc… Failure to wear correct practice wear will result in a lowered grade and running after practice.
  58. CHEERLEADER MUST BE IN THE DESIGNATED PRACTICE AREA WHEN THE 6TH PERIOD TARDY BELL RINGS! Failure to do this will result in conditioning. Arguing about being late may result in suspension from the squad.
  59. NO JEWELRY OF ANY KIND!!!
  60. Cheerleaders may not leave practice early. Leaving early will result in demerits.
  61. Doctor appointments are NOT excuses. Try to make them on days when we do not practice or get out of practice early.
  62. Be prepared to work hard, listen, cooperate, and do your best! It is important to be open to work with everyone including the coaches and captains.
  63. Cell phones should not be seen or heard. Eat BEFORE practice.

Be on time! Competition Practice times or Whole Squad practice (when working on a pep rally)

  1. Anyone who misses a practice THE WEEK of a pep rally will not participate, but will attend dressed out.
  2. Any cheerleader that fails to cleanly demonstrate the pep rally material by the day before will not be allowed to cheer in that pep rally.
  3. Any squad member who walks out of practice for any reason will be automatically dismissed from the team.
  1. Absences
  2. Excused- No Demerits: 1) hospitalization, 2) funeral, 3) doctor’s excuse for each day missed (not appointment)
  3. Not Excused- 2 Demerits each: any practice missed with coaches’ approval not outlined in the “Excused” list; every absence due to a school function equals one half demerit.
  4. No Show- 3 Demerits: missing a practice or performance without calling the coaches.
  5. It is the cheerleader/mascot’s responsibility to let the coaches know when they are going to be out. It is not ok to tell another squad member to tell the coach you won’t be present.
  6. Cheer Council
  7. will consist of the coaching staff, the principal, and two faculty members
  8. will review any action that has not been specifically outlined in the rules and regulations and will decide on what should be done
  9. Dismissal will occur when
  10. 10 demerits are acquired
  11. two warning letters are acquired
  12. missing more than 2 games for any reason
  13. not following camp regulations
  14. physically attacking or abusing another squad member
  15. out of school suspension
  16. any behavior deemed severe enough by the Cheer Council
  17. violating rules as listed in this handbook
  • Cheerleaders who are dismissed or quit will not be able to try out for cheerleader for one year.
  • Cheerleaders who are dismissed or quit will be required to pay any outstanding balance on his/her cheer account. The school will not be responsible for reimbursing costs.
  1. Captains
  2. Captains are chosen by the squad in a vote and by coaches, based on the performance and attitude of each cheerleader. The coaches have the final say in the captains.
  3. If a captain is placed on probation, they will be removed as the captain.
  4. Captains can be juniors or seniors.
