Professional Experience

March 2017 – DateAfrica Early Years Fellow: World Bank Group

  • Support the Investing in the Early Years effort, including by working with Program Leaders (PLs) and Task Team Leaders (TTLs) to coordinate work across sectors, as well as contribute to sector-specific analytical and operational work
  • Specific duties and responsibilities for the Ethiopia fellow will include:
  • Support the preparation of the GEQIP III project
  • Develop the ECD component with the team, including write ups and analysis of Project Concept Note (PCN) and Project Appraisal Document (PAD)
  • Coordinate ECD activities with the Ministry of Education, other relevant ministries, and Development Partners
  • Lead/support additional operational tasks as needed
  • Support activities related to the ELP Systems Research program in Ethiopia

Dec 2016 – June 2017Field Coordinator: Impact Evaluation of Ethiopian Social Accountability Program II, World Bank Group

  • Perform consistency checks, data cleaning, and analysis on the baseline data set
  • Coordinate the completion of the research, survey design and sampling strategy.
  • Monitor implementation issues and developments affecting the impact evaluation and recommend solutions in collaboration with other members of the IE team.
  • Work with the survey firm(s) to draft and refine questionnaires and communicate these discussions to the evaluation team.
  • Ensure that the survey firms are on track with all preparation activities associated with data collection (e.g. permits and clearances, translations, back-translations, etc.) and communicate progress to the evaluation team.
  • Participate in training and sensitizing of enumerators and field-testing of questionnaires.
  • Supervise data collection and ensure that questionnaires are administered properly: informed consent has been taken; respondent is given the option of not responding to certain questions; and enumerators are asking questions in an appropriate way that both ensures the accuracy of data and preserves the dignity of respondents and record answers correctly.
  • Verify that data entry is following the specified protocol.
  • Data quality control: cross-check entered questionnaires against hard copies.
  • Monitor that the program implementation does not compromise the impact evaluation.
  • Data management, specifically merging the panel data set, performing consistency checks, and ensuring a clean final data set is delivered by the survey firm.
  • Support the IE research team in the preparation of an endline report

Dec. 2015 – Jun. 2016Consultant at the World Bank Group – working on public expenditure review (PER) on health in South Sudan. Work includes supporting the South Sudan PER team in gathering data from international sources and producing summaries, tables and graphs to be sued in presentation and the PER report.

Dec. 2015 – Jan 2016Consultant at the World Bank Group – worked on national survey datasets (Household Consumption and Expenditure survey and Welfare Monitoring survey) as well as literature review for a preparatory work for a Benefit Incidence Analysis in Ethiopia.

July 2015Served as faculty associate for an Impact Evaluation workshop organized by Strategic Impact Evaluation Fund (SIEF) of the World Bank Group. The workshop brought UNICEF associatesworking on Early Childhood Developmentfrom eleven countries. I was responsible for assisting country teams in developing impact evaluation designs for their respective country programs. The workshop took place between 28th and 31st July, 2015 in Kigali, Rwanda.

  • Oversee the data collection process which took place in Addis Ababa, Dire Dawa, Hawassa and Mekele
  • Prepare data entry platform using CS-Pro and provide guidance for data entry
  • Clean the data and generate analytical tables for the final market report
