ACCOUNTABLE TO: Home Manager

REPORTING DIRECTLY TO: Home Manager/Assistant Home Manager

JOB SUMMARY

To provide a balanced and nutritious diet, through a series of flexible menus, prepared and cooked to a high quality, suitable to the needs of residents living in the home. You will also need to use your initiative and imagination to create dishes to maximise the use of stock and the changing requests of the people living at the home. You will be flexible in your approach and able to cope with several tasks at once. You will ensure kitchen hygiene and cleanliness is maintained at all times.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

·  To be prepared to work in different areas of the home.

·  To communicate, interact and support staff and residents with mealtime experiences.

·  To assist in planning and preparing menus etc. taking into account residents individual requirements

·  To maintain adequate stock control, rotation and ordering.

·  Ensure that statutory food hygiene and allergen requirements are met.

·  To support and advise staff using the kitchen in food preparation and kitchen hygiene.

·  To undertake individual cleaning tasks to ensure that satisfactory levels of cleanliness and hygiene are maintained in the kitchen and associated areas.

·  To ensure you are aware of any dietary needs in order to incorporate this into the planning and preparation of menus.

·  To monitor and maintain portion control to suit individual requirements.

·  To ensure that the company's Health and Safety Policy is observed in the kitchen and associated areas.

·  To take proper care of property, utensils, equipment and food stuffs, minimising breakages and damage.

·  To maintain adequate supplies of cutlery, crockery and kitchen equipment, in conjunction with the Head Chef/Home Manager.

·  To contribute to the training and development of staff within the kitchen.

·  To undertake appropriate training and development, as determined by the Home Manager.

·  Carry out such other duties as may be reasonably required by the Home Manager.

HEALTH & SAFETY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Employees have a statutory duty to take reasonable care for themselves and others who may be affected by their acts or omissions at work. Employees must also comply with Eothen’s health and safety arrangements.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:

It is in the nature of the work of Eothen that tasks and responsibilities are in many circumstances unpredictable and varied. All staff are therefore expected to undertake work which may not be specifically covered in the job description. These additional duties will normally be compatible with regular responsibilities and duties. If the additional responsibility or duty becomes a regular or frequent part of the staff member’s job, it will be included in the job description in consultation with the member of staff.
