Minutes – Roy moved, and Shel seconded, that minutes be approved as amended. Motion passed

Agenda – Shel moved and Roy seconded, that the agenda be approved. Motion passed.

Director report

The handbook is almost ready to go to press. Three more classes are in the queue but they may not make it to GES this year.

Assessment Group

They reviewed the letter to go to Unit Head.

Policy Group

A. Paul moved, and Shel seconded the motion to change faculty handbook language:

Motion passed.

1. Old language: Faculty Membership: Faculty membership of the UCC consists of seven members from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, one from each of the remaining colleges, one from the library, and one from the General Education Subcommittee.

2. New language: Faculty Membership: Faculty membership of the UCC consists of seven members from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, one from each of the remaining colleges, and one from the library.

B. The policy group will develop a policy about low-enrolling Themes.

C. Paul moved, and Gary seconded, the following Faculty handbook language change. Motion passed.

Old Language: Information Given Class at First Meeting

1. A syllabus.

2. The title, department, and number of the course.

3. Prerequisites to the course, if any.

4. The name, office number, and office hours of the instructor offering the course.

5. An explanation of policy relative to student absences.

6. The objectives and requirements of the course.

7. The basis for grading in the course.

8. The texts and/or laboratory supplies required for the course.

9. Date and time of final examination (from published exam schedule)

10. A brief explanation of how the course meets university-wide requirements such as Basic Skills, the General Education Program, and the Supplemental Writing Skills Program.

LEAP group

Roger presented the draft of the PowerPoint to be used at the fora.

The group reaffirmed that purpose of the workshop is to encourage faculty feedback about the proposal, which would expand the GE Goals to include the LEAP goals: do we want to revise or keep goals and then to determine how to structurally achieve the goals (this could involve different categories achieving different skills goals vs. our current system of all categories achieving critical thinking or other goals).
