Outline of the role

We need enthusiastic volunteers who are passionate about the work of Ashgate Hospicecare to proactively fundraise for us within a specified geographical area.

The role includes engaging with shops and businesses in the local community to place Ashgate Hospicecare collection tins and complete paperwork regarding their location, collection and replacement of full tins.

Working with the Community Fundraiser to identify/attend fundraising and awareness raising opportunities/events such as stalls at local fetes, collections at venues, etc.

Key Tasks

  • Raise awareness of Ashgate Hospicecare in a specific geographical area through a variety of activities including:
  • Placing collection tins in shops, businesses & community venues
  • Placing posters and information leaflets (e.g. gifts in wills leaflets) in shops, businesses and community venues such as libraries, doctor’s surgeries, community hubs etc
  • Organising and attending Ashgate Hospicecare stalls at community events e.g. local fetes, well dressings, village shows etc
  • Keep up to date records of where collection tins have been placed, the date a new tin is given to an outlet (picked up or replaced) and, if possible, obtain a signature from the person who receives the tin.
  • Organise at least one fundraising event per year, e.g. holding a stall at a local fete

Experience Required/Preferred

We’re looking for volunteers who are able to maintain accurate records and ensure relevant paperwork is completed; some experience of record keeping would be beneficial, though not essential as full training will be provided.

Individuals should be reliable and able to work independently as well as part of a team.

Good interpersonal and relationship building skills are essential.

Some experience of dealing with members of the public would be an advantage.

Other important information

  • Volunteers will be expected to:
  • Conduct themselves in a manner that will not damage the reputation of the Hospice and remain courteous at all times when engaging with members of the public
  • Wear a badge or carry a card that identifies them as a Fundraising Champion volunteer for AshgateHospicecare
  • Carry with them the contact details of the Community Fundraiser and to provide their contact details to AshgateHospicecare.
  • All volunteers are required to maintain confidentiality around patient, contributor and Hospice information. Training will be given on this.
  • Due to the level of responsibility for this role, we can only accept volunteers who are aged 18 years and over.
  • Training requirements:
  • Statutory Training (3 hours) – face-to-face or via workbook
  • Ashgate Story (3 hours) – face-to-face or via workbook
  • On role training
  • Ashgate Hospicecare will not tolerate any verbal or physical abuse directed at any of our volunteers. Should a Fundraising Champion volunteer experience any abuse they should report the incident immediately to the Community Fundraiser and/or anyone else responsible for organising the collection, and to the Police.
