Auto Cad Commands
TO SET ANGLES
1. Click on the big red A in the upper left of the screen and go down to tools.
2. Under the tools menu go down to drafting settings
3. Under drafting settings select the polar tracking tab to set the angles
TO MOVE AN OBJECT
1. Type in move
2. Select the objects you want to move and hit enter
3. The command line will say specify base point. Select the point where you want to move the object and click on it. You may now move the object
TO ROUND OVER CORNERS OR CREATE ANGLES
1. To round corners (fillet)
- Type in fillet
- Type in radius
- Enter a number for the radius
- Click on both lines where the radius will exist
2. To angle a corner (chamfer)
- Type in chamfer
- Type in distance
- Enter a length for the chamfer
- Click on both lines where the chamfer will exist
TO ZOOM IN & OUT
1. Click on the magnifying glass on the lower portion of the screen.
- Type in EXTENTS to have the entire drawing fit on the screen
- Type in SCALE to reduce the size of the drawing to scale. You must enter a scale factor. A scale factor of .5 will reduce the drawing to half of its size.
- Type in WINDOW to zoom in on one portion of your drawing. The command line will ask you to specify a first corner and then the opposite corner. You will then get a zoom of the two points.
MATCH PROPERTIES
1. This command is located under the properties menu located at the right side of the screen and it’s symbol is a paint brush
2. Click on the source object then click every line that you would like to have the same properties as the source object.
TO LOAD LINE TYPES
1. Go to the properties tab and click the arrow that says select a line type located below the colorful circle.
2. Go down to other
3. The line type manager will appear and you should select load. This will allow you to choose what line types you would like.
DIMENSION LINES
1. Go up to the annotation box at the top of the screen and select the dimension line at the top right corner of the box.
2. This will allow you to choose various dimensions
- Linear Dimensions – distance from one point to another.
- Aligned Dimensions – length of the actual line
- Angular – you must select two lines of the angle to get the degrees
3. The box located directly below the dimension box is a multi-leader. It will allow you to add your own text to describe something such as “8 holes @ ¾ of an inch”
PLOTTING A DRAWING
1. Go to File and select plot
2. Select a printer : Room 111 Black & White
3. In plot area select extents
4. Click on the center the plot box
5. Click on preview to make sure your drawing is correct before you plot
ERASING A LINE
1. Make sure your command line at the bottom of the screen only says command:
2. If it says anything else, hit ESC at the top left of the keyboard.
3. Click on the line you would like to erase and hit delete
TO TRIM A LINE
1. Type in trim.
2. The command line will say select objects.
3. Click on all the lines you would like to trim as well as the intersecting line where the trim will take place.
4. Hit enter
5. The select the pieces that you would like removed.
