JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION:Residential Aide

SUPERVISOR:Program Director

QUALIFICATIONS:High school diploma or equivalent.

Chemical dependency experience

preferred.

JOB SUMMARY:

Residential aides are responsible for the safety and

security of the unit and residents during their

shift.

AGENCY REQUIREMENTS:

All employees of Transitions Incorporated are

required 1) to arrive on time for their scheduled

shift; 2) to contact the Program Director as soon as

possible if unable to work a scheduled shift; 3) to maintain a professional attitude and atmosphere through strict adherence to the Transitions Code of Ethics, Non-Fraternization policy, Infection Control Policy, Fire-Safety Policy, Drug Free Workplace standards, dress code, etc., as outlined in the Personnel Policies and Appendixes; and 4) to uphold and maintain the Personnel Policies (including Appendixes).

ESSENTIAL JOB ELEMENTS”

It is essential that Residential Aides. . .

1). . . remain alert, awake and attentive throughout their shift.

2). . . render emergency first aid and CPR when needed and coordinate emergency efforts in case of fire, tornado, etc.

3). . . visually identify residents during hourly checks of all areas of the building.

4). . . communicate (both oral and written) with clients, other staff, staff from referral agencies, the public, and emergency personnel.

5). . . respond appropriately to emotional and physical crises of clients.

6). . . remain aware and cognizant of client activity and activities within the house and monitor signs of client sobriety through visual, auditory, and olfactory observations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Maintains safety and security of the facility including, but not limited to:
  1. Monitors house safety and security through minimum of hourly checks of all floors and residents to insure all residents are present and/or accounted for and the security of the building is maintained.
  2. Oversees cleanliness of facility during shift through monitoring of chore completion.
  3. Responsible for the chore and household assignments to residents.
  4. Monitors the distribution of food and household supplies.
  5. Monitors behavior of all visitors in the house for appropriateness.
  6. Performs breathalyzer tests and take urine samples when appropriate.
  7. Reads log book and supplementary notes upon arrival for duty.
  8. Handles staff office duties (including, but not limited to: signing clients in and out, monitoring self-administration of medications, keep door alarm programmed, answering clients’ questions, greeting and screening anyone who enters house).
  9. Enforces all house rules.
  10. Completes all items on shift change form and sign.
  11. Location checks and verification of employment.
  1. Communicates activities of self and residents to

to other staff in a timely and understandable manner including, but not limited to:

  1. Records daily notations of significant contact in individual files.
  2. Records any and all pertinent information in log book.
  3. Concise and accurate documentation in the log and client files of any rule violation.
  1. Provides other client services including, but not limited to:
  1. Remains accessible and available to meet

residents’ needs.

  1. Provides crisis counseling to residents as needed.
  2. Maintains all “curfew” and “lights out” rules.
  3. Enforces all house rules.
  4. Provides telephone crisis intervention, making referrals to appropriate agencies or a community resource who would provide additional services.
  1. Assumes house duties as needed or assigned,

including, but not limited to:

  1. Facilitates recreational activities.
  2. Transportation of clients in agency van.
  3. Coordination of meals.
  4. Answers house telephone when assigned or when clerical staff is absent: take messages, screen or channel calls, advise callers of program procedures, answer general inquiries regarding program, etc.
  1. Attends all staff meetings and in-service sessions unless excused by Program Director.
  1. Represents Transitions in a positive and professional manner in all community interactions.
  1. Assists in other Transitions’ programs as needed or assigned.
  1. Other residential or administrative duties as needed assigned.
