Membership Plan/Goals

National DECA invited eight State Associations to National DECA Headquarters in Reston, Virginia in June to develop membership increase plans and goals for the 2011-2012. Pamela O’Brien and Nick Edwards represented North Carolina.

Mrs. O’Brien presented the membership plan to the board. National DECA changed the ICDC slot allocation formula and now have a set number to gain additional slots instead of a floating formula based on state association’s percentage of membership. If NC DECA membership increases over 6,000 members an additional competition slot will be allotted.

Chapter advisors are encouraged to utilize the new NC DECA promotion video with parents, administrations and other professionals to gain involvement. Teachers are encouraged to gather parent email addresses at the beginning of the year and email the video out to parents.

The Board discussed moving Chapter of Distinction plaque to a membership plaque system based on the 3 tiers of the membership campaign and each chapter submitting a local membership plan. Chapters are encouraged to create local incentives through this plan. The new program will be placed on the NC DECA website.
