/ Ambulance Trust Bolsters Security to Ensure Improved Support
“For the Trust, ISA 2004 strikes the perfect balance, delivering class-leading security for the network with cost-efficient management. It gives the organisation flexibility for an effective response….”
Jeremy Elvin, INetwork Manager, Hampshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust

Business Needs

The Hampshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust provides emergency services to 1.6 million people. It wanted to update its existing network firewall, which delivers secure access to NHSnet, a channel for distributing patient information digitally across the health service. An important driver behind the move was NHSnet’s upcoming replacement by a high-speed, broadband network called N3. To maintain its enterprise-class infrastructure, the Trust needed an advanced firewall with industry-standard security and cost-efficient administration.

Solution

The Trust turned to its existing technology services provider and Microsoft® Gold Certified Partner World Class International (WCI). The company, which implemented the Microsoft Windows Server 2003™ operating system (part of Microsoft Windows Server System™ integrated server software) for the Trust, also deployed Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server (ISA) 2004. The server application capitalises on an infrastructure based on Microsoft technologies. The firewall delivers enterprise-level protection of the Trust’s Microsoft Exchange Server 2003communication and collaboration server from external attack and improves bandwidth utilisation through advanced Web caching. It also provides best-practice administration of access rights by using Active Directory® directory service.

Benefits

Class-leading security from modern-day viruses and worms.

Advanced protection of e-mail servers from external threats.

Cost-effective support management.

Best-practice methodology for Internet access rights using Active Directory.

Industry-standard responsiveness for network development
