Job Title / Regional Liaison Officer
Reporting to / Head of Membership
Purpose of Role / Deliver theCILEx regional strategy through proactively promoting and presenting CILEx as a professional awarding organisation with chartered body and regulatory status across a wide array of stakeholders.
Key Areas of Responsibility /
  • Legal Firms – promote and sustain a constructive supportive and professional working relationship with employers of legal services.
  • Companies – actively network with other professional organisations, educational institutions and training providers.
  • FE and HE Colleges – provide careers guidance to present and future students helping them to find suitable employment. Market CILEx to prospective colleges and students. Liaise with and support local CILEx providers and students.
  • Advise and assist with the centre accreditation process. Conduct preliminary checks on premises and facilities of prospective centres and report results.
  • Upper Schools, Sixth Form Colleges and Careers Service – attend local schools, colleges, universities and career events to deliver presentations, develop working relationships and act as a liaison/reference point.
  • Other Professional Legal Bodies and Recruitment Agencies – develop awareness of local employment markets.
  • Conduct exam invigilation checks on behalf of the Awards Dept and compile report.
  • Represent CILEx as a trustee on Legal Support Trusts within region i.e. North West Legal Support Trust.
  • Promote all areas and aspects of CILEx Group
  • Where practical and where necessary:
  1. Provide information on study path and career
  2. Liaise with employers on behalf of CILEx members to offer support and promote CILEx
  3. Provide out of hours back up
  • Attend centre board meetings, open days, student sign up evenings etc.
  • Contact and help resolve on CILEx students’ behalves queries relating to:-
CILEx membership/education/CPD/qualifying employment/regulation etc.
  • Be a named contact for Employers, stakeholders,
Course centres, students, members
  • Liaise with and develop working relationship with regional LawSociety(ies)
  • Attend monthly Liaison team meetings at HQ
  • Maintain weekly ‘diaries’/activity log and report on activity
  • Support the CILEx charities

Knowledge to be acquired and continually updated /
  • Knowledge of CILEx qualification, including qualifying employment and entry points
  • Regulations on exemptions, work based learning and use of the CILEx qualification

Other Areas /
  • Conduct approved research particularly with employers but also educational centres. Prepare and submit reports to a prepared schedule.
  • Promote CILEx as an equal opportunities organisation accessible by all.
  • Promote and support the work of local branches by providing a liaison function with external bodies. Assist with planning and organising branch events.
  • Be instrumental in setting up new branches wherever there is need/demand
  • Attending CILEx events, seminars, conferences and provide logistical support for CILEx as requested.
  • Attend and assist at branch meetings.
  • Work with the Institute’s departments as appropriate.
  • Liaise with CILEx Officers and Council Members where appropriate.
  • Responsible for the attainment of agreed targets and objectives.
  • In conjunction with the Communications Department, design/prepare promotional material in corporate style for use at events.
  • Attend meetings at Kempston when required.
  • Maintain a record of all expenditure.
  • Undertake training consistent with developing skills relevant to those duties and responsibilities of the role.
  • Undertake any other duties of a similar level and responsibility as may be required from time to time.

Customer Service /
  • Deliver a high level of customer service in both written and verbal communication
  • Deliver customer service in line with Customer Service Standards

Place of Work / Based at home but with extensive travel in the areas as outlined above.
Other / Occasional weekend working

Qualifications Skills and Knowledge
Essential /
  • Able to demonstrate a track record of business development/account management
  • Knowledge and understanding of education and training in the legal sector or other professional services sector
  • Strong interpersonal skills and able to demonstrate effective communication with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Must demonstrate a proactive approach to developing contacts and working relationships.
  • Experience of report writing and the production of written reports to set out findings
  • Ability to devise and manage a structured calling plan.
  • Able to manage own time efficiently and effectively.
  • Able to manage a budget for events.
  • Effective presentation skills with a proven track record of presenting to a variety of audiences.
  • Able to demonstrate an understanding of customer service excellence in both written and verbal communication.
  • The ability to work occasional weekends and attend evening events.
  • Current driving licence or ability to travel extensively in a widespread area by other means.

Desirable /
  • Educated to degree level preferably in law.
  • Experience of legal practice.
  • Experience of working for a membership body or awarding body.
  • Experience of managing an expense account.
