Job Title: Higher Level Teaching Assistant – ERP Unit

Grade : G5

Hours: 37Term time only

Fixed Term Contract for 1 Term to cover maternity leave

Start date 8th January 2018

Job Purpose

  1. To support the classroom teachers and the lead ERP teacher, with their responsibility for the development and education process by providing care and supervision to children / young people, including those who have special physical, emotional, communication and education needs, by utilising a good standard of practical knowledge and skills.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Support children with autism within the classroom environment and during unstructured times, as appropriate. This is to include personal care for children who require it.
  1. Work collaboratively with the teaching staff in order to aid access to the curriculum, support the IEP, Behaviour Plan & programmes designed for individuals or groups of children.
  1. Assist the teacher with the planning of learning activities, preparing or modifying work for individuals or groups of children as directed.
  1. Use strategies in liaison with the teacher, to support pupils to achieve learning goals
  1. Develop practical strategies/resources to aid access to curricular and non-curricular activities and achievement of set targets (agreed by teaching staff/SENCO etc)
  1. Use specialist skills and activities to foster, supervise or support intellectual and social and emotional development of individual or groups of children
  1. Support teaching activities and provide support for specific curriculum areas
  1. Assist with supervision of pupils outside of lesson time i.e. lunchtime / unstructured times to develop social learning opportunities
  1. Promote pupil independence and self esteem both in learning and social skills, reinforcing via praise and encouragement and setting challenging, demanding expectations
  2. Undertake supervision and discipline of pupils within the procedures of the school, providing detailed and regular feedback as appropriate
  1. Ensure pupils are able to safely use equipment / materials provided
  1. Prepare and organise teaching resources including use of ICT, checking and maintenance of Service equipment and materials.
  1. Model strategies relevant for pupils with autism to school staff
  1. Establish constructive relationships with pupils providing feedback to them in relation to progress and achievement as directed.
  1. Liaison and communication with teaching and support staff, parents, external agencies and professionals to obtain, exchange and record information on individual children.
  1. Monitor individual pupil’s progress, achievements and needs, maintaining records, producing written, verbal reports, attending reviews/meetings as appropriate, reporting to teachers / SENCO as required.
  1. Attend ERP and whole school meetings as necessary
  1. Participate in personal and professional development activities and attend training relevant to ASC & TA posts to meet changing demands of the post
  1. And such other duties as are within the scope and the spirit of the job purpose, the title of the post and it’s grading.
