Purpose / People credited with this unit standard are able to: plan and prepare team activities, and negotiate and facilitate team processes to achieve an objective, and evaluate own performance.
This unit standard is for people who lead teams regularly.

Explanatory notes

1 All activities must comply with – policies, procedures, and requirements of the organisations involved; the ethical codes of relevant professional bodies; any relevant statutory and regulatory requirements.

2 Evidence supplied for assessment against this standard must be generated in the workplace, or in a simulated situation that requires performance equivalent to that required in the workplace.

3 Award of credit for this unit standard requires the team’s objective to be achieved.

4 Definitions

Meeting in this unit standard refers to any occasion when the team assembles to work toward an objective, and does not require the team to follow formal meeting procedures.

A team is any temporary or permanent group of at least three people with a shared purpose or objective. For this unit standard, the team does not require formal structures or reporting processes.

Outcomes and evidence requirements

Outcome 1

Plan and prepare team activities to achieve an objective.

Evidence requirements

1.1 The objectives for the team are stated clearly and concisely.

1.2 Supporting information required by the team is complete and accurate.

Range supporting information – any documented information that would enhance understanding by providing background information and/or setting out options and criteria for consideration.

Outcome 2

Negotiate team processes to achieve an objective.

Evidence requirements

2.1 Terms of reference and ground-rules are agreed with team members and the organisation.

2.2 Activities required to achieve the objective are agreed.

Range activities are achievable, specific, measurable, and time-based.

2.3 Tasks, roles, responsibilities and/or accountabilities are established to achieve the objective.

Outcome 3

Facilitate team processes to achieve an objective.

Evidence requirements

3.1 Team progress towards the objective is monitored and reviewed in consultation with team members to ensure that the objective is met.

3.2 Strategies to achieve the objective are discussed and agreed.

3.3 Team meetings are planned, focused on the objectives, summarised, and reported in accordance with the requirements of the organisation.

Outcome 4

Evaluate own performance.

Evidence requirements

4.1 Own performance as leader is evaluated in terms of achievement of the objective, and team or other feedback.

4.2 Reflective self-evaluation of performance shows understanding of practices and/or ideas that could be applicable to other teams.
