Determination of pronouncement

It is required that a registered professional nurse or licensed medical resident who makes the actual determination of death and pronouncement must also record it with the decedent’s medical records; therefore, pronouncement is not a requirement of the EDRS.

Suspension of participation in NJEDRS

The State Registrar may suspend the authority of a registrar to participate in NJ-EDRS and preclude the registrar from issuing burial permits or registration, if the State Registrar determines that the municipality is insufficiently equipped or provides untimely service with respect to the review and final authentication of records. In the event of a registrar suspension, the State Registrar may assign a registrar from another municipality to substitute until the municipality meets the standards established by the State Registrar.
