Job Summary

The accounting manager manages daily throughput of the organizations accounting activities including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, cash management and all areas relating to financial reporting by managing resources (personnel, systems, & exceptions) to coordinate operations and manage department productivity and work quality.

Essential Functions

The primary duties and responsibilities of the accounting manager consist of but are not limited to:

  • Manage accounting personnel
  • Coach employee performance by conducting performance reviews
  • Daily problem solving and exception management
  • Lead employee selection, performance management, hiring and termination activities for accounting department
  • Coordinate the activities within the department
  • Involved with customers and suppliers on complaint problems and/or service matters when necessary
  • Confers with departmental heads on the application of accounting methods and standards, and adherence to policy.
  • Review financial statements, budgets and activity reports, and other performance metrics to measure productivity and goal achievement and to determine areas needing improvement to achieve short and long-term growth and goals
  • Develop and direct the accounting processes in order to ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and meet reporting requirements
  • Sets clear goals for the employees and the work unit
  • Work with employees to set and communicate performance standards that are specific and measurable; maintains methods to track employees’ progress and performance
  • Provides specific performance feedback as soon as possible after the event or action
  • Develop, understand and use effective processes to eliminate waste and drive business results
  • Creates effective communication plans and uses various communication channels to facilitate the achievement of business goals and build employee engagement

Qualifications

  • Minimum requirements: Four year Bachelor degree in Accounting
  • 5 years accounting experience and responsibilities, 4 of which must be in a supervisory capacity
  • Preferred: experience in manufacturing environment

Accountabilities

  • Ensure the highest performance possible is achieved by direct reports
  • Ensure effective communication, coaching, training and development ofaccounting personnel
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of key financial information to management
  • Policy enforcement in areas of accounting, cost reduction, customer satisfaction, employee relations, and other key performance indicators
  • Monitor and analyze department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining high levels of accuracy
  • Responsible for accounting -related communication flow and coordination between all resources (includes suppliers and customers)
  • Responsible for proper allocation of resources in the accounting department
  • Build effective teams across departmental boundaries
  • Ensures on time delivery of accounting deliverables to our internal and external customers
  • Ensures the planning and the optimum utilization of the workforce
  • Ensures the effective management of employees through positive reinforcement, growth, and cross training opportunities
  • Provides resources and support needed. Holds employees accountable to accomplish results
  • Enforce good housekeeping & safe work environment

Authorities

The accounting manager has decision-making authority regarding accounting personnel including:

  • Enforce policies and procedures and address issues immediately
  • Authorize PTO & labor edit changes
  • Employ disciplinary action
  • Manage department budget
