Choose 1 of the following projects.Each project is worth 100 points.
PROJECT #1
This may be completed as a:
- brochure b. power point presentation
Choose one of the 8 major planets of the solar system.
For each planet you must include the following information:
- Name of the planet/Title
- Type of planet
- # from the sun
- Distance from the Sun
- Measurements:
- Diameter, smallest or largest, density…
- Composition:
- What is it made of?
- Parts of the planet
- Rings = If so, how many, what are they made of? Other info?
- Conditions
- Does it have an atmosphere? What is it made of?
- Weather conditions, temperature, storms…
- Tilt and how much (angle).
- Length of time for 1 revolution around the sun
- Length of time for 1 rotation
- Moons:
- How many?
- Names, sizes, distance from planet…
- Other information you can find on this planet
- Fun facts, weird facts…
(You must find other information about the planet!)
Also include:
- List of sources (books, websites…) on the back or on the last slide of your presentation
- Pictures: More than 1 picture MUST be included. All pictures MUST be labeled. Describe what the picture is.
They must be different pictures, not 5 pictures of the planet by itself.
Examples: moons, rings, pictures of the solar system…
*This must be typed. There must be nothing in WRITING except for the title or any decorations you may
want to add.
*You will be graded on how neat & creative your project is.
*Do not use tape (that I can see) or staples to attach parts of your project.
*Attach everything securely. I will not be responsible for parts that have fallen off by the time I grade
your project.
*You will also be graded on spelling & grammar so check everything over before you hand it in!
*MAKE SURE YOUR NAME & PERIOD IS ON YOUR PROJECT!!!!!!
If your project is completed as a POWER POINT presentation, you must print out a copy of the slides AND burn the presentation onto a CD or email it to me. Make sure your name and Science period on it.

This project will describe Pluto and why it is now classified as a dwarf planet.
You must include the following information:
a. Title
- When & where it was first discovered and by who?
- Where in the solar system is it located?
- Distance from the sun
- Measurements
- Diameter, smallest or largest, density…
- Composition:
- What is it made of?
- Parts of the planet
- Conditions:
- Does it have an atmosphere? What is it made of?
- Weather conditions, temperature, storms…
- Tilt
- Length of time for 1 revolution around the sun
- Length of time for 1 rotation
- Moons:
- How many?
- Names, sizes, distance from planet…
- Decision made about Pluto being a dwarf planet:
- When?
- Where?
- Who (explain)?
- Why is Pluto no longer considered a major planet? Give at least 2 reasons.
