POSITION SUMMARY: This is a temporary, seasonal position to provide construction monitoring and supervision of a hydroelectric unit overhaul at the Snettisham facility. This position will be based at Snettisham and the candidate will be expected to live on site.
The Snettisham Project is a remote facility located approximately 30 air miles from Juneau. Access to and from site is by chartered aircraft. Employees are required to reside at the Project in a studio furnished apartment. The work schedule will be 10 hour days, 4 days on and 3 days off but could change depending on project conditions.
KEY or ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provide daily reports and pictures to the AEL&P Engineering Staff.
- Attend daily meetings with contractor personnel on site.
- Prepare weekly and monthly summary reports for the project file.
SECONDARY FUNCTIONS:
- Organization of project drawings, submittals and correspondence.
- Update the project schedule.
- Assist AEL&P Engineering Staff with project logistics; scheduling of aircraft, barges and freight.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires the candidate to be currently enrolled in an Electrical or Mechanical Engineering program at a college or university with at least two years of coursework completed.
A valid Alaska State Driver’s License is required.
EQUIPMENT UTILIZED:
Duties of this position will require the ability to:
- Operate a personal computer, and programs for word processing, spreadsheets and CAD as wellas specialized applications for engineering studies and device configuration.
- Operate standard office equipment and machines such as a printer, fax, calculator, copy machine,camera and telephone.
- Operate portable and mobile two-way radios.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
In order to meet all expectations of this position the employee will need to be able to lift 10 pounds without assistance and sit for long periods of time. The employee will also need to be able to fly in helicopters and single engine airplanes. At times the employee will need to be able to work outside in inclement weather for long periods of time.
MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
For an employee to succeed in this position they will need to:
- Possess good interpersonal and customer service skills to courteously deal with and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, other employees, outside vendors, contractors and the general public.
- Work in a fast-paced environment, with constant interruptions and distractions. The ability to multi-task, adapt to changing priorities, and meet set deadlines is required. Attention to detail and strong organizational, analytical, drafting and proofreading skills are required. Must be able to work efficiently with little or no supervision to meet deadlines and balance multiple tasks.
- Be able to work well and complete duties accurately while under pressure, while attending to multiple duties simultaneously.
- Have demonstrated ability to be punctual and reliable in attendance.
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing with all levels of the organization, outside agencies, governmental bodies and the public.

SALARY:
$20.09 per hour and eligible for overtime pay. Some overtime will be required, the amount will be variable based on activities occurring on site and supervisor approval.
