Speech Language Pathology Assistant Program

SCOPE OF WORK: To administer, develop, maintain and sustain the curricula in the Speech Language Pathology Assistant Program at Nashua Community College. This position will report to the Department Chair of the Humanities and Communications Department.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

·  Develops, implements and evaluates curricula in the Speech Language Pathology Assistant Program.

·  Maintains program/course documents and revises in a timely manner.

·  Serves as academic advisor to students to promote student retention.

·  Selects monitors and evaluates intern/clinical sites.

·  Recruits and interviews applicants for program.

·  Writes reports such as periodic program reviews, annual reports, self-study, program and college accreditation.

·  Coordinates program advisory committee and arranges for a minimum of two meetings each year.

·  Actively participates in curriculum development, review and revision in the Speech Language Pathology Assistant Program.

·  Assists Department Chair with faculty recruitment, orientation, assignment of teaching accountabilities, mentoring and performance review of program faculty.

·  Participates in College events, such as open houses.

·  Attends department and institutional meetings as required.

·  Serves on campus or system committees/teams.

·  Complies with all college, system, state and federal rules and regulations.

·  Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor’s degree from a recognized college or university with a major in Speech Language Pathology, education, Speech Disorders, or in a field relevant to the program area in which position is assigned. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.

Experience: Four (4) years’ professional or paraprofessional experience in the field as Speech Language Pathologist, education, or occupation relevant to program area in which position is assigned, with responsibility for program implementation, direct service delivery, planning or program evaluation. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.

License/Certification: Valid driver’s license or access to transportation. Maintains current Speech Language Pathologist Certification through the New Hampshire State Department of Allied Health.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Maintains competence with in discipline through a variety of methods such as participation in continuing education activities and clinical practice.

RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS: Considerable knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations governing the programs to which assigned, and of federal and community resources and organizations. Working knowledge of research and planning methods and planning techniques. Ability to communicate tactfully and effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to write technical information. Ability to understand and interpret the functional interrelationship of policy, regulations and procedures and to evaluate the impact on programs, service delivery, clients and staff. Ability to detect and define problem areas and causes and to create and develop effective solutions, including the exercise of sound judgment in evaluating situations, planning action, making decisions and setting priorities. Ability to work independently to develop new or alternative approaches to meet changing and variable conditions. Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the college appointing authority.
