Course Description: Prerequisite(s): Geometry. This course provides students with a bridge to courses beyond the level of Algebra 1 and Geometry and to the mathematical empowerment needed to make responsible financial and economic decisions. It is designed for students who need additional mathematical experiences prior to enrollment in Algebra 2, with or without Trigonometry. The course incorporates topics from algebra, geometry, measurement, and probability and statistics with an emphasis on real-world applications.

Course Objective: Students should be prepared to take Algebra 2 as their next course in high school.

Textbook: Math for Your World, Blitzer

Classroom Materials

- Fully charged laptop -1” binder with 3 dividers

- pencils and pens- ruler(straight edge)- scientific calculator or graphing

- loose leaf paper(no spiral notebook paper)-graph paper

-access to the internet for Edmodo and online textbook

Academic Information

  • Assignments should be labeled with your name, teacher, period, date, page number(s),and problems assigned. Show all work necessary, including formulas or equations. Homework will be checked on a daily basis unless otherwise indicated and collected once a week. Late homework will be accepted with point deductions: 10% per day.
  • Absences are frowned on; however should you need to be absent, check the assignment log posted on Edmodofor your make up work. Also check the class binder marked Algebraic Connections for missing assignments and notes.You have 5 days to turn in missed assignments due to absence.
  • If you should miss a test, it will be made up the day you returnbefore or after schoolunless other arrangements are made with the teacher. If you arrange a time to make up a missed test and fail to show, the grade will result in a zero.
  • You will keep a notebook for this class. Notebooks will be collected at the end of each quarter. Keep a 1” binder with dividers for: Dictionary, Notes, Assignments, in that order. You will need to have a current marking period outline in the front of the notebook for grading purposes.

Grading

  • Your grade will be determined by tests/notebook, projects (60%), assignments (40%). Bonus opportunities will be given throughout each marking period.
  • Grading scale: 90-100 (A), 80-89 (B), 70-79 (C), 60-69 (D), 0-59 (F).

Conduct Information

  • Please use the restroom between classes. Passes are not allowed during

the first and last fifteen minutes of class. No passes will be issued during the introduction of new material. Students only receive 5 passes per semester for use in their classes.

  • All students are expected to be on time to class. Failure to be in your seat

by the tardy bell will result in starting the discipline ladder set out by Columbia starting with a warning and moving onto more serious consequences.

  • You will need to bring all classroom materials to class with you every day unless instructed otherwise. All students need to be prepared for class every day in order to be successful!
  • Remember the 4 P’s listed below and everything will be fine.
