Summary of Proposed Changes to Department Rules

Submitted to and Passed by Junior Fair Board 11/9/2016

The following changes have been submitted and accepted to Junior Fair Board and passed by the membership for the 2017 Fair. Please review these changes with your club.

Registration Form: Changed the registration form to include a column to check if the animal that is being entered in Junior Fair is also being shown in the open show.

King and Queen: Resumes must be turned in by the third Saturday in June or the nominee will not be permitted to interview. Interview scoring removed from the book.

Costume Class: Only project animals and their exhibitors are eligible for this class in each species.

Beef: Date/year changes in the classes were the only changes.

Dairy: Date/year changes in the classes were the only changes.

Dairy Goat: The classes have been changed to be the same as those in the open show. Also, on the schedule of Junior Fair activities, the different division times have been eliminated.

Dog: No changes.

Garden Produce: Limits to entries have been lifted. You can drop off your entry from 5:00-9:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Horse: Replace “novice” and “open” from the jump classes for Friday’s show to “Novice/Open.”

Poultry:

·  Times for the different divisions within the poultry department have been changed to reflect shows immediately following the show previous to it.

·  Market Chicken changed to a pen of 3. Minimum weight for chickens changed to 5 pounds per chicken with a total pen weight of 18 pounds.

·  Market Duck changed to a pen of 2.

·  Weigh in times for poultry at Fair will be assigned by club and be between the hours of 6:00 and 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening.

·  Birds must be in the barn by 9:00 instead of 5:00 p.m.

Pygmy Goats: Moved one class from the Junior Doe Show to the Senior Doe Show.

Sheep: No changes.

Rabbit: Meat rabbits must weigh 3-1/2 to 5-1/2 pounds and must be between 8 and 12 weeks old to be eligible for the Livestock Sale.

Small Animal: No changes.

Swine: The minimum and maximum weights have been changed to minimum of 225 and a maximum of 310. Also, the hair on the pig must be no less than ½” in length.

Livestock Sale:

·  A complete list of members, the member’s project(s), and the assessment must be turned in by Skillathon in July.

·  There will be up to 2% commission assessed to the selling price of all animals through the Sale.
