Position Summary / The Director of Urban Programswill be responsible for coordination and oversight of existing urban initiatives in four communities: Coatesville, Pottstown, Chester and Norristown. The Director will serve as the primary relationship manager for Natural Lands with municipal officials, funding agencies, community groups and citizens. The Director will advance conservation and greening projects by identifying opportunities and developing local support and grant funding, and assisting with the implementation of the projects by other Natural Lands professionals.
Primary Responsibilities /
  • Serves as primary contact for communications concerning Natural Lands projects and initiatives in densely developed communities
  • Oversees and coordinates the identification, development and funding of conservation and greening projects in targeted communities
  • Organizes and coordinates Natural Lands professional teams charged with implementing projects
  • Promotes Natural Lands work through deployment of communication strategies developed in coordination with the Communication and Engagement department

Qualifications /
  • Bachelor’s Degree in planning, landscape architecture,public policy, public administration or a related field, withfive years’ work experience in urban settings
  • Demonstrated ability to move planning and or conservation projects from inception to completion
  • Experience with writing and administering state and federal grants for urban/disadvantaged communities
  • Experience facilitating public discussions
  • Experience managing teams
  • Affinity for establishing and maintaining professional relationships in order to advance organizational goals
  • Ability to successfully handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Willingness and ability to assist and work with a wide variety of people
  • Self starter capable of working independently with a minimum of supervision
  • A demonstrated enthusiastic and positive attitude
  • A passion for land conservation and providing quality service
  • Experience using Microsoft Office programs, with PhotoShop a plus

Physical Requirements/ Working Conditions / This is mostly an office-based position, requiring frequent sitting for long periods, with occasional periods of walking, standing, bending and reaching. The position requires use of the computer and the telephone and handling large printed materials. The position requires work at outdoor sites, including driving and walking and standing on uneven terrain.
Work Location / This position is assigned to the main office located at 1031 Palmers Mill Road, Media, PA 19063. The ability to work from home for part of the time is allowed with the supervisor’s approval.
