“Terry on Wheels”
Across America for Disability Awareness
May 19 - July 30, 2011
I have lived in two worlds. Twenty years ago I was severely injured in an accident and
confined to a wheelchair. I came across many people who only saw me as a wheelchair with a person inside instead of a person who happens to be using a wheelchair. I over-came the physical challenge but never forgot the less than positive attitudes of others.
Years later I married Susan, who has had a physical disability all of her life. I noticed
that many people’s attitudes toward disabilities need improvement. I see the ongoing struggle she encounters with people who see only the wheelchair. It is necessary to educate others about disability and empower people with challenges so they receive fair treatment and a place in society.
“Terry on Wheels” is the result of ongoing frustrations and stereotypes of others. Education and exposure is the most effective route towards universal acceptance. Isn’t it time that we see what people with disabilities CAN do and give them the opportunity to reach success?
Get involved in two ways:
· Tell us your opinion of what should be done to bring attention to disability.
· Donate to this bike ride to enable us to bring attention to disability awareness.
