A brief overview
The Solan district is the most developed district of the State from the point of view of setting up of MSMEs. A total number of Micro & Small units are 2965 investment is 350601.6 and no. of Himachalis are 42149 and Non-Himachalis 13456. No. of Medium and Large units are 239 investment is 625492.2 and no. of Himachalies are 26044 and Non-Himachalis 11635 Enterprises have been set up in the district. Most of these enterprises have been set up in the bordered area like Baddi, Brotiwala, Nalagarh & Parwanoo of the district.
Existing Micro & Small Enterprises in the District
From the details of registered units set up in the district till, it may be observed that the largest number of units were set up under the miscellaneous group and then followed by mechanical, chemicals, pharmaceuticals electrical & electronics respectively in district.
The major groups which saw boom after implementation of special package of incentives to the state which has been partially withdrawn now are the pharmaceutical group and corrugated box enterprises. As far as employment is concerned , chemical, mechanical and electrical & electronics group of industries have became largest employment provider in the district.
Large & Medium Scale/Public Sector Undertakings
After the implementation of Special Industrial Package of incentives, many large & medium scale industries have come up in the district which is most developed district of Himachal Pradesh.

MAJOR DEVELOPMENTAL SCHEMES BEING IMPLEMENTED BY DIC
· Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP):
This scheme is being implemented by DIC, KVIB and KVIC under which loans are provided through Banks upto Rs. 25 Lacs for manufacturing Industrial projects and upto Rs. 10 lacs for Service Projects with subsidy ranging from 15% and 25 % for Urban area and 25% to 35% for Rural area depending upon the category of applicant. During the financial year 2014-15, Margin Money Subsidy of Rs. 149.57 lacs disbursed to 70 beneficiaries under PMEGP scheme creating employment to 351 people. This year also District Task Force Committee has cleared 60 cases which are being sent to different banks of the District.
· Rural Artesian Programme/ Rural Ind. Programme (RAP/RIP):
612 rural women are being given 9 months skill training in the trades of Cutting - Tailoring, Computer, beauty parlour, etc. under RIP/RAP scheme.
· Rural Engineering Based Training Programme (REBTP) :
12 SC, BPL rural Candidates are being given 9 months skill training in the trades of Electrician, Motor Mechanic, Carpenter, Computer Tally, beauty parlour, etc. under REBTP scheme.
· About 200 youths will be given hands on training of one month duration in Mobile repairing, Food processing, computer hardware, Soft Toys making, bag making.
