Cell Analogy Poster Project
Objective: To create an eye-catching, accurate poster illustrating how a cell and its parts are like your analogy.
What are we going to do and how long will it take?
You will work in groups of 2 for this project. You will work for 2 periods in class on your poster. I will provide the poster paper. You are to, as a group, come up with an analogy (comparison) for eight organelles of your choosing. I will provide the list of possible options. You must define the organelle (structure and function) and provide an analogy. Each member of the group must be prepared to defend/justify why the group chose the analogy that they did and how the analogy relates to what the organelle’s function is within the cell.
How will I be graded?
This project will be worth a lab grade (25%). Your group will be graded using a rubric. You will be graded for the poster and the presentation. Those grades will be averaged and that will be your final grade. The rubric for the poster is on the bottom of this sheet and the rubric for the presentation is on the back of this sheet. The poster rubric is based on a 0-3 points scale: 0=you did nothing, 1= limited effort was made to particpate, 2=honest effort was made to help your group, 3 = you are amazing and stupendous, a scientist of admirable intellect and character!

Individual accountability:
This grade is out of 3 points. While you are working on your project, I will be jotting down notes about everyone’s work habits (always working hard, not disturbing others, have materials with you and are prepared, stay on task, present). Each person receives up to 3 accountability points based on his/her contribution to the project. This is a judgment call on my part and is non-negotiable. ______
