Large Diesel and All Dual Fuel Generator Spreadsheet Instructions
Large Diesel and All Dual Fuel Generator spreadsheet instructions
This spreadsheet is only used for diesel engines > 600 HP (approx. 450 kW output) and all dual fueled engines. If your engine is smaller than this specification, then use the Small Generator spreadsheet.
Actual Emissions
To calculate Actual emissions use the Fuel Input (mmBtu) tab. Actual emissions are calculated using actual fuel usage data.
The Fuel Input (mmBtu) tab consists of three sections:
1. User Input
2. Fuel Sulfur Content
3. Fuel Input Rates
1. User Input section
Enter the user information values (if known) for the following fields: Company Name, Plant County, Plant City, Permit Number, and User into cells D6 through D10.
2. Fuel Sulfur Content section
Enter the value for the Diesel Fuel Sulfur Content into cell D12 and/or enter the value for the Natural Gas Fuel Sulfur Content into cell D13.
Note: The sulfur content default values are 0.50 for diesel fuel oil and zero for natural gas. Enter site specific values as applicable. If using ultra low sulfur diesel (ULSD), update value to 0.0015 (% sulfur by weight, equivalent to 15 ppm), low sulfur diesel (LSD) update value to 0.05 (% sulfur by weight, equivalent to 500 ppm) or diesel fuel to 0.5 (% sulfur by weight, equivalent to 5000 ppm.)
3. Fuel Input Rates section
Enter the value for the Hourly Fuel Usage for Diesel (gallons) into cell K12 and/or enter the value for the Hourly Fuel Usage for Natural Gas (cubic feet) into cell L12.
Note: The generator’s hourly fuel usage rate can be found in the manufacturer specifications.
Enter the value for the Annual fuel usage for Diesel (gallons) into cell K13 and/or enter the value for the Annual fuel usage for Natural Gas (cubic feet) into cell L13.
Potential Emissions
To calculate Potential emissions use the Engine Output (hp) tab. Potential emissions are calculated using the fuel, generator output, and hours of operation.
The Engine Output (hp) tab consists of four sections:
1. User Input
2. Fuel Sulfur Content
3. Engine Output or Generator Output
4. Annual Operation
1. User Input section
Enter the user information values (if known) for the following fields: Company Name, Plant County, Plant City, Permit Number, and User (name of person preparing spreadsheet) into cells D8 through D12.
2. Fuel Sulfur Content section
Enter the value (% by weight) for the Diesel Fuel Sulfur Content into cell D13 and/or enter the value for the Natural Gas Fuel Sulfur Content into cell D14. Note: The sulfur content default values are 0.50 for diesel fuel oil and zero for natural gas. Enter site specific values as applicable. If using ultra low sulfur diesel (ULSD), then update value to 0.0015 (% sulfur by weight, equivalent to 15 ppm), low sulfur diesel (LSD) update value to 0.05 (% sulfur by weight, equivalent to 500 ppm) or diesel fuel to 0.5 (% sulfur by weight, equivalent to 5000 ppm).
3. Engine Output or Generator Output section
Enter the value for the Engine Output (horsepower) into cell D15 OR enter the value for the Generator Output (kilowatts) into cell L15. NOTE: The engine output (hp) is preferred for calculating potential emissions. If the engine output is not available, then the generator output (kW) should be used.
4. Annual Operation section
Enter 500 hours for emergency generators and 8760 hours for non- emergency generators into cell L13.
