Creating a Slideshow with Music in iPhoto ‘06
This tutorial assumes that you have used iPhoto before, and that you have some photos in the iPhoto Library. If you have not, the Apple web site has a full interactive tutorial on how to get started with iPhoto at this address:
- In iPhoto, click Library.
- Select a group of individual photos that you want to have in your slideshow (Apple-Click on each photo to select more than one photo).
- With these images selected, click the Slideshow button.
- This will bring you to the Slide Show Settings window, with these controls at the bottom of the window.
- Click the Music button (it is at the right end of this toolbar).
This will open a window where you can select a song from your iTunes Library.
- After selecting your song, be sure there is a checkmark next to Play music during slideshow.
- Click OK to return to the Slide Show Settings area.
- You can add movement to each of your slides if you wish, using the Ken Burns effect. You can set it so that this happens with all of your slides by clicking to put a checkmark next to Ken Burns Effect.
You can also have the images Pan (move from one part of the picture to the another). Just grab the image with your mouse and drag it to the desired position for the Start and for the End.
- Click the Settings button.
This will open a box with a variety of controls.
- In this window, set the amount of time that you want each slide to play.
- You can choose the transition between slides here.
As well as the speed of the transition.
- There are a number of additional settings here.
- Since you can only choose one song from iTunes, you may want the song to repeat if your slideshow will be longer than the song.
- Or you can make the slides fit the length of your song exactly.
- You can change the aspect ratio of your slideshow.
- You can Preview the effects you have set.
- Or you can play the slideshow full screen (with music).
- Your slideshow, including all the images you selected
and all your settings will be saved and will be available to you in the Source column in iPhoto.
You can double-click on the slideshow name here to change type a
New name for the slideshow.
You can save your slideshow as a QuickTime movie, so that you can burn it on CDs to give to others to enjoy. Here is how:
- Select Export from the File menu.
- Type a name for your movie and select the destination.
- Select the frame size for your movie.
- Click Export.
- After it finishes exporting you can insert a blank CD and
burn the movie onto the CD to distribute to others.
